There are only 2 uboat types left... a type IX and a type VIIC 41...

"Spend much time in recherche..."
What for? To have a nice simplified interface? Where´s the history data collected for sh3? Lost?...

:88)

There´s also a type IIA left for study. The "Vesikko" near Helsinki :)

The UBI TV thing is the worst method i've encountered of playing a vid on the web....you just couldn't get it more wrong :nope:

piri_reis 02-05-10 09:01 AM

UBI TV is located in the Ubi offices. They got all the access to the team/game engine and people to get permissions to record these.

Then what do they do, show us 3 minutes of cheesy gameplay, with lots of bugs apparent. It's incredible how unprofessional these guys are, I mean I have modded for other sims and did showcases to those, and never tried to show the shortcomings of the engine. It's like they especially show this stuff. :stare:

You forget the Type II (Vessiko) in Finland, the resurfaced sunken sub (don't remember Type or ID, sorry), and the Type XXI in, was it Wilhelmshaven?. :salute:

There are several German mini-subs about as well and one manned torpedo.

The XXI is in Bremerhaven to be precise. :ahoy:

If Im excited about the game, Im allowed to be. How old are you acting like this? Leave me be and let me be excited about the damn game. God this board sucks.

Are there any mods here to stop these guys from ruining everyone elses party. You guys are in every thread crying about DRM, thats fine, but leave the rest of us be now. Im getting excited for the game now, you dont have to comment to me every time I express it.

I've criticized you in the past for the way I think you say some things, but in this case I'll stand with you. Attacks on the DRM won't stop, because we believe it's wrong, but people don't need to attack you every time you speak up.

Except for that one item, I'm excited about the game too. I'm hopeful about the modability, which if true means that most of the complaints are about things which will be easy to change. My biggest worry is about problems in former versions that never got fixed, and can't be fixed by modders.

I think it's time to leave Trenken alone - at least until he runs me down again.:D

Oh, and believe it or not, Brag is a respected published author, who has also kept us entertained for many a moon with his wonderful Johann Sebastian Balz stories.

I invite you to take a look at the first seconds of this video

Notice how calm is the sea in the U-boat pen compared to the latest SH5 video. :hmmm:

Steve,
Huge thanks for your kind words. Time to leave Trenken alone, and alone he stands, a monument to agent-provocateurs. The arrogance is so palpable he might get immortalized as a character in a future story. :D

I appreciate that Steve, but just as those can express their hatred towards DRM, I guess I can express why I dont mind it. Does that make me a bad guy? I dont think it does, but since they have a different opinion on it, im the bad guy. Its not my fault that I dont have a problem with it.

At this point the game is close to being released, I'm exicted for it, I do feel bad for those that wont be able to play it, but what can I do about that? Nothing. So I come here to talk about my excitement for the game, and every time I say something positive, or see any thread with any positivity to it, someone comes it complaining about DRM, and it spirals out of control.

Im sure there's mods on this site. At some point they need to just reel this in and restore order around here. Believe me, if they dont come into every thread posting crap about DRM, I wont go into theirs and defend it. Thats the best thing but its not happening right now.

At this point everyone has made mistakes, myself included, things get out of hand in the heat of the moment, but I think enough time has passed with this thing that now we just have to get this board back to the way it used to be. Discipline people if need be. If ive done something wrong, slap a ban on me and ill take it. Anything to get this place better than its been. DRM is one issue of many, it shouldnt be flooding the entire board.

Stormfly 02-06-10 01:25 AM

The second video, it was about the new 3d engine was realy good, loved that video, i was realy excided !

now... i dont know what i hate more, the white crosshair with that white borders if you highlight something, the ugly face in the periscope, the whole 2D interface, the unrealistic movement of the water or that BEEEEEP DRM... :x sorry man, nothing personal against you !

this is going to be like vista was, ...for house wifes :nope:

GermanGS 02-06-10 01:26 AM

I do agree that going crazy about removing DRM will not help the problem, since UBI will most likely not remove it at the release.

That is why i am not even going to bother to complain about it, instead my suggestion is that it can have a timed limit, like have a 12 hours of accumulated game-play being connected to UBI DRM and after the 12 hour period a player can be off the hook, and is able to play in offline mod.:salute:

I think, that such approach will make the community happier and will not require a huge amount of programming.

Just a suggestion though, I'm still going to get the game with DRM or not. I have good Internet and Downtime will not kill me. :yeah:

You posted this, just eight hours ago:

I do hope you do what you say from now on. That was a perfectly nice thread until then. A haven from DRM. It didn't last long though.

We are three weeks away from announced date of release. So far, the website and the Ubi TV footage have only increased the doubts about SHV.

If in reality it turns out that the game has been adapted to fit two completely different markets (Kiddie bang bang and serious subsimmers) this by itself could be a disaster. Add DRM to the mix and it could be a catastrophe.

I worry about the periscope view, did I hear the American ahooga klaxon as the diving signal?
I can't imagine the devs doing this, but they also have to take orders from the suits who wouldn't know a submarine from a river boat.

So far, all indications are that the Ubi team is in great dissaray. This doesn't bode well for the game.

Of course, if they insist on DRMifying the game, who cares as we all are going to take refuge in SH3 or SH4 for the fans of the ahooga klaxon.

Couldn't agree more. I want a simulation, not an RPG. Still no footage of a TDC, which is pretty indicative that it isn't there since so many folks actually want to see it. That periscope screen is awful.

The graphics are nice, but good graphics do not replace gameplay. Heck, I still play doom with the doomsday engine because the gameplay is good.

With the fact that UBI has classified the game as action/adventure and with everything we have seen in screenshots and interviews I can only conclue this is a departure from the SH series and it is going in a new direction, away from true simulation.

No doubt that will continue to appeal to some here, and all well and good for you.

For me, I'm not interested until it has been modded up to at least the GWX/OLC gui level. By then it will probably be DRM free and cost about $9.99

Till then I'll stick with SH III.

Notice how the chefs beard is outlined, as it is an item in itself. That must mean that you could give orders to the chef, or to the chefs beard. You know you have been out on a long voyage when you can select someones beard and talk to it.

And when the beard answers, it's definitely time to head home.
