Bridge On River Kwai was a very good movie indeed.
Have you seen To End All Wars? If you like POW movies, it's a must see.

IF Das Boot isn't your favorite, Man ou need another forum.............:D

I love Das Boot and many other WWII movies.

Being a German it's difficult to find any movie that doesn't show the Germans as the bad guys and glorifies the Allies. Therefore I like movies that are more into comradeship, bravery and how bad the war itself is and so on. One of my fav is "Bridge of Remagen", another one "Duell in the Atlantic" (sorry, is that the official title?) with Curd Jurgens as a sub commander in a thrilling duell with a DD.

I also like the US vs. Jap ones, like Tora Tora Tora.

And, of course, "Operation Petticoat" ;)

From the list, I picked A Bridge Too Far.

But I really prefer Band of Brothers...

1. Der Untergang
2. Das Boot
3. Cross of Iron
4. Stalingrad

Somehow I seem to prefer 'German' WW2 movies. :hmm:

Das Boot
Talvisota (Finnish movie about the Winter War)
Letters from Iwo Jima gets honorable mention.

Other: The Cruel Sea Good Film Great Book. Perhaps not so good for action, but for human drama almost intolerably intense.

And another one gets resurrected from the past...but it's a good one, so I'm not complaining.

I also noticed that while I listed my criticism of Saving Private Ryan, I didn't actually vote or name a favorite. My favorite would be Tora! Tora! Tora!, followed by Das Boot.

The Longest Day and its sequel, A Bridge Too Far, both show the respective battles from both sides, with the triumphs and blunders equally shared; much like Tora! Tora! Tora! You might like them.
And the Curt Jurgens/Robert Mitchum movie was The Enemy Below.

Great Escape

Well i havent voted cause i have more then 1 fav movies of ww2. This would be : Das Boot, Stalingrad (both in original audio with subtitles). Then ofcourse Band of brothers and the last one is Schindlers list.

Das Boot has to be one of the most realistic WWII movies about German U-Boats I've ever seen. The others are The Enemy Below and U-571. But The Enemy Below used an American sub( look at the hatches inside the boat) and not a German one it was a good try though. And the U-571 was a bunch of crap concidering the British captured the Engmia machine first.

Other...

The Dam Busters.

Goose_green 10-08-07 05:58 PM

I chose "other", it's too difficult to decide which one is my all time favourite, they are all equally good in their own way. I have always liked Where Eagles Dare, Midway and The Longest Day mainly from childhood, but of late I have really enjoyed Black Book and Downfall - slightly different take on the traditional war film dealing with battles or campaigns. And, of course you can't forget Band of Brothers even though it's not a film but a mini series.

Too many to choose from:-?
