The largest numbers of flights going to and from Moscow are Turkish. So, why is NATO allowing Turkey to supply Russia? Answers on the back of a $9 bill.

Well Turkey actually is a NATO member. Yes, Erdoghan is playing his own corrupt game, and lots of westerners follow him gladly.
On the other hand he just gave his ok for Finnland, and Turkey has just announced to stop servicing russian airliners.

At national electiosn yesterday, Marin managed to gain votes, but still finishing third. NATO membership was no deciding issue, since all three rivaling parties wanted it. I read centralisation of health care leading to even longer waiting times to get dates with a doctor or for hospital, and high state debts were what ruined it for her. Also that she could not hold her coalition with the Greens together over disputes in environmental protection issues.

According to Minna Ålander: “Foreign journalists are deeply confused “how could Finland’s most celebrated politician Sanna Marin lose the election ??”

Well, she’s a case of a politician who is more popular abroad than domestically”

———

“… it’s almost a rule that a sitting PM loses the elections in Finland. So the fact that Marin’s social democrats gained seats (even if it was due to tactical voting) is quite the win.”

———

“Also, never underestimate how riled up Finns can get about public debt. Finland’s public debt has been growing consistently since the financial crisis and there was a new covid-induced peak during Marin’s time in office.”

Finland will become a full member of Nato on Tuesday 4 April, according to the alliance's Secretary General, Jens Stoltenberg.

"This is a historic week. Tomorrow we will welcome Finland as the 31st member of Nato, making Finland safer and our alliance stronger. We will raise the Finnish flag for the first time here at the Nato headquarters," Stoltenberg told a press conference on Monday afternoon.

Welcome Finland.

What happened to Sweden, did they bottle it?

The only way '12 units and divisions' could be formed without mass conscription would be taking troops from the east and I'm sure the Chinese would be all in favour of this.

(Reuters) - Russia will strengthen its military capacity in its western and northwestern regions in response to Finland's expected accession to NATO on Tuesday, Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Alexander Grushko said, state-owned news agency RIA reported.

Finland and Sweden applied to join NATO last year after Russia invaded Ukraine. Finland has a 1,300-km (810-mile) border with Russia that will roughly double the transatlantic alliance's frontier facing Moscow.

Russian Defence Minister Sergei Shoigu said last year that Russia was taking "adequate countermeasures" and would form 12 units and divisions in its western military district.

Grushko told RIA: "We will strengthen our military potential in the western and northwestern direction. In the event that the forces and resources of other NATO members are deployed in Finland, we will take additional steps to reliably ensure Russia's military security."

^ Pffft... It was only a few months ago that they have massively withdrawn units from the border with Finland in order to be able to militarily maintain their invasion of Ukraine. This clearly says how much they actually feel "threatened": not at all.

Done!

The length of Russia's border with Nato member states has now doubled.

Finland are in a better position militarily than the majority of NATO members.

Reece 04-05-23 06:22 AM

I thought Poland would have shared that position. :hmmm:
