The one wrinkle is that Red Bull won't be standing still. Winter development may indeed take some of the quirks out of the car, and that Perez would be driving a different car than Albon did in some respects. Not apples to apples you know? Albon has talent, but he just isn't consistent enough for a top team. At least not yet. I suspect he'll get another crack at it, maybe at Alpha Tauri again in 2022.
Aside from technical development, I think signing Perez was the best thing Red Bull could have done to close the gap. It seemed like a no-brainer, but the announcement took so long it made you think it wouldn't happen. The thing I want to see more than anything is a proper title fight for a change. This might be the year. |

There are rumours the announcement hasn't gone down well in some sporting circles but I personally don't have a problem.

Meh, footballers are wimps anyway.

One of the most prominent nay sayers was the six time snooker world champion Ronnie O'Sullivan apparently.
|
I can see that but snooker doesn't strike me as a particularly inspirational field of endeavor. Maybe I'm looking at it as more of a pub game and as such less respectable.
|
I think all sports depend on the individual perceptions of all sports fans but having said that, I've played a lot of snooker in my lifetime but never driven a F1 car.

Haha, looks like seat just opened up for Russell :D
|
I'd actually prefer Russell to Bottas tbh.
|
Agreed. He showed me more in that penultimate race than Bottas did in the entire second half of the season.
There are rumors that Hamilton is seeking a huge pay rise and a three-year deal. Mercedes are balking at the figures, especially in the current Covid climate, and want a shorter deal. It seemed unthinkable even a month ago, but could Mercedes just cut ties and promote Russell this year? A few weeks ago I would have said no way, but now? That door is cracked open. Other sources say the deal is already signed and this is all marketing mirrors. F1 is rarely dull :) |
Not heard anything at this end but I'd like to see Hamilton win one more title and to do that he will need that Mercedes car.
