Pinner, why don't you do your self a favor and try some tested modlists, like sober's or TWoS megamod maybe? That way you could spend your time playing the game actually rather then searching for stable modlist. Trust me, that can take months. You are using number of mods which are rarely used at subsim so it can be anything that cause the problems...

The SubSim forum as I was taught to understand it, was that it will provide guidance and suggestions to assist a member to overcome their problem/s, if known. I have been playing this game for approx two and a half years, as I originally stuck to Ubisofts' original game format (no mods), as lacking as it was in the wonders of modifications that we now have at our finger tips, provided by superbly talented modders, it worked for me very well with few glitches and enabling me to knock up 4 million grt in sinkings. However, there comes a time when you have to move forward, hence adding mods. As you will appreciate, there are hundreds of mods available on this forum, supposedly provided to enhance ones pleasure and widen the experience of the individual player and their personal choice ! Without question, Sobers mega mod is in a class of it's own, however,there are certain mods contained within, (You will be using real navigation . You have to play on 100% difficulty.) that I do not wish to use at this present stage in my gaming. However, who is to say that I may change that, as my experience is widened later on. Choice of the individual, Sir, and two world wars to back that up! The problem is compatability of the mods with each other, get it wrong, herein lies the dreaded CTD. Hence, I ask the respected knowledgeable members for assistance, in case at a glance, they can see a blatant possible ctd issue looming. Naturally, there may be the odd mod being used that we do not recognise or use ourselves, but, they origionally came from the SubSim download lists, maybe, a past issued mod. the mods I am using by and large came from the Sobers mod list anyway and upon observation, are currently being used, by and large, throughout the community. Some are not, but in the abscence of instructions to the contrary, having personally found no specific problem with them, I therefore use them. I try to supply as much information to anyone good enough to help me, as possible, hence ammended current mod activation lists & JSGME validation lists, as with the feedback from the helper, I ammend lists accordingly, some of which I have been requested to supply. Reference your suggestion use TWoS mega mod, was there not a compatability issue with this? Unstable. I have enough problems as it is trying to cure one little CTD which only appears to show it,s ugly face under a specific circumstance. I apologise if my entreaties for help to this forum have caused you offence and to this end, I will make sure it does not continue by sorting the problem out myself and not using the forum. Finally, to all those most helpful gentlemen who have been so kind as to previously offer me assistance, many, many thanks. I have learned a considerable amount. happy hunting Pinner2010. |

Silly thing is it was only a connection gone bad. There is a shop 15 minutes up the road from me run by a guy and his wife. He does not rip you off, the only trouble is depending on how busy he is means you have to wait your turn in the queue. I can't make up mid yet whether to upgrade my 1 gig ATI Radeon HD5770 graphics card to a 2 gig Nvidia + new cpu + bigger case + 250gb solid state drive, or leave out the sold state drive and go for a 4 gig graphic card instead of the 2gig. Having to save up, can't afford it yet, hopefully September, another week off? Peter |

What about a hybrid drive I heard talked about, therein you get speed plus storage? Myself, stuck at present with Nividia GT 8800 x 520 ram,plus two 520 GB drives. Does the job Ok. At the rate I am getting a CTD, will not be playing this game for much longer anyway. Changed system mods so many times to cure CTD problem, to no avail, I hardly recognise my game anymore. CTD at the same place exactly, as I come down the coast towards the Dover Straits at exactly the same point,CTD. (campaign: "Happy Times") Not for me though! Get the same CTD on the very first campaign, similar problem, heading for Scapa Flow, approx 60 to 80 klm from Scapa, irrespective of whether their are enemy ships present or not. I was trying to add some radio files to my radio and Iam using a Mod list to my liking . while reading your post I see that you do not play at 100% .. Now this will sound absurd , but iam sure the authors of the mods had there settings Set @ 100% and built these mods At that setting level . So here is the absurdity . I got files for a german war radio . and All of the sudden after installing it I would be saling along and than I would click on the radio . , what happened next is . that as soon as I did that There would be a icon that said "would You like to enable Speech recongnition "? than after that I would get the ctd . whence I rermoved these files from my game . the ctd stopped .
So in my limited knowlege of things, I surmised that the authour of the mod had speeche recongtion , weras I do not have that incorporated into my mod soup , and btw when I removed these files . the CTD went away . So were and what file is not compatable with your current settings ,, try changein your settings and remember that you need to clean out ALL files from Sh5 documents folder . some people forget to do this and after many installs get the same problems again and again .. Trying to help !!! :o |

My Dell case is too small to take the 4gb Nvidia card as it is huge. I also need a larger cpu as mine is only 350w and I also need better ventilation than my Dell case can give. My computer guy has a shop soiled good quality all singing and dancing gaming case for £35 The guy who was having it rejected it because it had a tiny rust type mark in one corner. My specs are Dell XPS8100 > Windows 7 Home Premium > 64 Bit I7-860 Processor 2.8Ghz 4 cores 1333Mhz 16 Gig Ram ATI Radeon HD5770GFX 1 gig 1 TB Sata 7,200rpm The 250gb SSD is currently on offer. Like you say a smaller one would be adequate for my SH4 and SH5 keeping the gaming separate. I will take your points on board regarding the set up. I cannot afford to do it yet as I just bought a 27 inch Asus monitor for £215 and I am broke, or at least that what the wife tells me lol. Thanks Peter |

This has to be prime candidate for ctd's SubFlags_0_0_8_byTheDarkWraith 2 I cannot use it, would love too, But get ctd's every time I try and use it, even when it is put last. I still think you have to many obscure mods. Do you think you suffer from mods ocd lol? It is worth giving it a go without flags and see if it is the culprit. I know sub flags runs fine for some but you have such a cocktail of mods unless you can take the working basics and build from there it could be like looking for a needle in a hay stack if you know what I mean. Guess what graham, damn test lastnight til the wee hours ctd, i left it running when i left ts and went to bed But, after a few hours sleep i had another thought ................. Had to do some editing, tedious but fun, now i have subflags from initial career restart at memel, to kiel, kiel to scapa, i'm on way back now after sinking 5 ships :) in scapa Thing is i had to remove equip upgrades, but will edit them later now i am 100% sure of the problem ############################################### Peter, My old i7 920 is a smidge slower than yours stock and runs sh5 and more modern engined games brilliant (sh5 not tuned for sure lol) but i slap vcore up mess around and she runs @ 4.2 ghz (stocks 2667ghz) This game needs a good cpu but it's somewhat memory which you've got plenty of coupled with a great gpu that brings this game to life, my new gpu has amazed me fps-wise, rest of rig's samo samo, so gpu is wtg That case sounds a good bargain though, clear rust/mark off, put a badge or alike over it (sometimes get badge stick-on with new cases or several stickers etc) I'm lucky i live a not too bad drive away from ocuk and they have decent prices and free deliv if you're on their forum with so many posts (i can never wait so drive n buy hehe) Sounds like a decent guy at pc shop, ones left bear me are total ripoff merchants :( Anyways, off for light snooze, then hit the modding, get flags sorted, load grahams loadout up in mine, start tearing hair out lol Ohh ps Graham, i took pics of scapa icons etc, bet 100% what you saw lastnight, i'm certain your's is down to mods now or at least mod sequence (with the darned subflags too, not its fault though, and for me after finding out it's an easyish fix TTFN :salute: |
