Nice article Neal, the author has definitely got a broad overview of the fandom. Of course, the fandom has its darker sides, just as any fandom does, but nevertheless, it's a fandom based around a show that promotes friendship, tolerance and love, the series is funny, has some very well written and made songs (catchy too) and the creators are in touch with the fanbase (see - Derpy) which is a rare thing in todays world, particularly so with a show aimed at children.

Plus it's fun! :haha:

That it is. Jolly good fun. Not about to fill my home with toys or run of to conventions though. That's a bit too much for me.

There's something that keeps popping into my mind when I see some of the anti-pony stuff: if I had a daughter and watched (and enjoyed) the show then, would anyone think it was weird? Why is it so odd to enjoy a cartoon by yourself as an adult? :hmmm:

I think a lot of adults take the opportunity whilst their children are growing up to have a 'second childhood', introducing the children to things that they enjoyed as kids. Doesn't always pan out, but it gives them an excuse to dig out some old films and TV shows.

I thought men weren't supposed to grow up? Figured I was still in my first childhood. :O:

But yeah, a lot of people are worried about perceptions I guess. My kids would be exposed to that stuff all the time. :haha:

Went to the National Media Museum in Bradford - highlight for me was original George and Zippy :D and a bit on the guy with the long name who did the animation on Jason and the Argonauts (among others).

Yeah, Ray Harryhousen or similar - it's bugging me, let me check now I'm on PC. . .

Please hold.

Thanks for waiting - Ray Harryhausen.

I'd watch his stop-motion work over CGI anyday. :yep:

Sailor Steve 08-30-12 07:02 AM

I knew dat. My version was funnier. :O:

Herr-Berbunch 08-30-12 07:12 AM

It was mainly for my own peace-of-mind. :03:

Harryhousen was a legend, I wish, I dearly wish he had been able to do his War of the Worlds film that he had in mind.

In regards to childrens tv shows...well...I have a DVD of 'Ivor the engine' on the shelf. I miss those shows. :yep:
