havent fully watched it yet, I listened to director comentary while playing SH3. Only reason I havnt watched it is my father has the only copy, and when we watch TV or a movie together I apperntly have to pay attention like im defusing a bomb, if my eye moves away he says your not watching the movie. Im most likley going to get a copy with the money I received from returning my epic fail christmas gift known as U-571.

Your father is right: you've got to focus on DAS BOOT. :rotfl2:
This movie is a must! I have several different copies myself.

I even export extracts from the movie and put them in the Gramophone folder in .ogg format to have a DAS BOOT atmosphere! :Kaleun_Periskop:

Enjoy it! :Kaleun_Los:

I think it's one of the very best movie endings ever done. And very suitable for what is, after all, an anti-war film.

And i like it coz i like original!

Aye, same here. Only cartoons and kid's movies meant for very young people are
dubbed, otherwise it's subtitles. Probably wouldn't watch anything from telly if
it was dubbed. :hmmm:

I only hated the ending because all the awsome people died. I was so connected to the captian.

HEAVY SPOILER!!!

I watched it finally - great film, probably the best war film I ever watched, but ending was **** to be honest, not because all they died, it could be a good concept, but how suddenly it happened. Everything in the film was slow paced (I watched uncut version), and the ending twist was so fast and so contrasted with the rest of the firm, that it accomplished a comical effect for me. I wasn't thrilled by it, I was laughing. I couldn't help myself because in fact that kind of contrast and pace-change is used in comedies. This was the most ruining ending ever for me, once more - not because of concept of them dying, but because rushing it so comically fast. I officially not agree with this ending, and wish to forget it, it's not a part of the movie for me.

Personally I thought the ending was great with its pace in contrast to the rest of the movie. :hmmm: Goes to show that death comes fast when it does eventually come.

Well, the problem is that movies are a kind of art that is formalized in a certain way, and you can't do everything, because it can backfire at you, and that is a case for me. You just can't show a dramatic twist, in so twisted way. Maybe dramatic music and slow tempo would help. I'm not a fan of supporting emotional moments by music - as often it means that the moments are just plainly bad, and music is necessary to create an emotion (I really HATED that "romantic" music in the movie), but I think that way could be better in this case. It could be arguably bad then... but at least wouldn't be laughable for me. It just needed a more work to show us that this scene is really important.

As it is with nearly everything in this world, you can't satisfy everyone.

The ending looked for me exactly like that - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PTabJrW975Q ;)

Edit: Or you can call it a summary of the movie ;) .

Here's some good news: In the book the captain is the only one who goes down, and according the the two sequels he didn't die either.

Real life: U-96 was destroyed in an air raid...three years after the book and movie end.

So the book and movie are fiction after all; just fiction based loosely on fact.
