The big publishers have to much responsibility towards their stockholders -- nothing left for customers.

I'd tend to think that,
Yes,
there is no on going work at this time for another patch.

The Dev's proved that Units can be imported to higher ups,
and that may have been enuff for them.

'Let the Modders do the work for free.
Once sales go up again?
We'll revisit doing another patch.'

Is the way I see it in my head.
I can also hear them!
But they speak French so I don't know what they are saying!
:haha:

One thing for sure. If Ubi abandons the game and cancels the Silent Hunter Series, they will be the losers, not us. We will merely get what we want from someone else.

I remember how despondent I was when Apple abandoned the Apple II line after completely losing the vision and releasing lousy versions toward the end, then not supporting them. Talk about doomsaying! But now I have the computer I always wanted and Apple was not willing to produce. Too bad for them. And my present computer is based on the same open architecture and open code ethic that made the Apple II so great and the lack of makes the Mac so bad.

That's how the subsim drama will play out if Ubi doesn't buy a vowel. And like Apple, Ubi may go on to be very successful in their clueless, anti-customer ways. It's sure worked for Apple!

Thank the gods my voices are mute and use sign language, good thing i can't see them, or i'd be in one helluva mess.

Has Ubisoft abandoned us? Of course they have. They took the money and ran. It appears that was their intention from the start, even before the pathetic release of SH5. But their day of reckoning is coming soon. I don't think they will last much longer as a company. See the thread below:

Its disturbing really. Seems a lot of games with potential are being abandoned by their developers for the sake of money.

I bought 4 games this year, Rise of flight, FSX, Modern warfare 2, and of course Sh5. and 2/4 are unsupported wrecks.

The good:
-FSX had been patched 3 times i think?
-I got rise of flight at patch 1.002 and they are now Up to 1.013 yes that's right 1.013. Thats the customer service you get when a former team of modders makes a company! (although they have a bad habit of making new planes to sell and not fixing Flight models of the old/ free ones)

The bad:

Silent hunter 5...enough said

Modern warfare 2 started out as a good fun title...but slowly...relentless Lag, Hackers, A Pointless over priced map pack, Problems with IW net and a general lack of concern by ANY and ALL of the developers, be it IW ward or activision have made that game a joke.

Is this what PC gamers are relegated to? It seems more and more companies release a game...promise great things and patches, then split after getting their money. :nope:

If there are enough people running for the store shelves and imparting tremendous bandwidth usage to the Steam servers on release day, the companies will see $$$$, not the gamer wish/fix list afterward. To be fair, some companies are better about this than others.

Don't trust anyone over thirty, either. (especially privateer, Reece, or me :O:)

My God. In a few short years nobody will trust me. I will be too old. I mean, young. Erm, old. No, young! *facepalm* This is complicated.

In answer to the OP; I don't think Ubisoft abandoned us.....I think they made a very poor business decision and they are now paying the price for it....as are subsimmers everywhere.

If they were to remove the DRM component, at least they would leave the Silent Hunter franchise on a high note. :)

This is the progression for Silent Hunter IV: Wolves of the Pacific

SHIV released March 20, 2007
Free Patch 1: March 22
Free Patch 2: April 17
Free Patch 3: July 12
Free Patch 4: November 26
Add-On: March 28, 2008

As opposed to SHV

release: March 2
Patch 1: March 3
Patch 2: May 11

So if there actually is another patch, we won't see it until July-August.

However, given the lack of feedback for the game by Ubisoft, I think they have unofficially abandoned the game

Barso 06-15-10 08:05 AM

After watching the ubisoft E3 event yesterday, it became very obvious were ubisofts future lies and sorry but the silent hunter franchise won't be in it.
Am I sorry? No I'm not because after the SH5 treatment I'm glad it stops here.
I would love the GWX team to go back and finish SH4 GWX.

Hanomag 06-15-10 09:50 AM

I have not bought or even seen anyone play SH5. Normally I support my fav game titles. Like SH3 for example. I still encourage my friends to buy it and then point them over here to Subsim for appropriate modding.

I would really like to play SH5 but the negative feedback is horrific. :nope:

Besides the DRM issue.. is it true that you are limited to certain types of boats? Its not like SH3 where I anxiously await each passing month til I can upgrade to my beloved IXD2?? I am somewhat confused with the gameplay. Maybe its too much rumor control. I am sure I will have to buy it at some point and find out for myself. "Dont worry Neal I'll use the Amazon link." :DL

I can only pray that a phoenix arises from the ashes of SH5...

I am spoiled rotten by GWX and Commander and many other wonderful mods and skins etc, which allowed me to create a "Burger King.. Have it your way.." type of game.

Anyways I would love to help in future endeavors for this game but anything above and beyond gameplay and graphics issues my abilities are somewhat limited. I mean anyone can spot a destroyer with wings. No?

The best customer support for a wargame that I have seen comes from Battlefront for their Combat Mission: Shock Force. It was released in 2007, since then they have released 2 addons with another one on the way. They are up to patch 1.21 and unlike many others issue free patches to players who do not buy the addons.

But BFC is run by wargamers who actually care about the games they put out.

Easy to calculate:

0-30: Trustworthy (still too dumb to be dishonest)

31-60: Untrustworthy (usually drunk)

60+ (twice-thirty): Trustworthy (too tired to be dishonest)

JCC
Still can't be trusted, but getting more tired every day.

slow demise of PC Games?

i was in my local Game the other weekend and it looked like the old days of out-going LP's and in-coming CD's.

less and less space for pc games and the ever expanding console range.

...some where in there is SH5 et al...

i can only guess titles like SH are of not much monitary income for the big boys in suites?
