:oops:Wait that you guys not able to play again, seriously thats just getting silly now.

To all the guys wanting to play at the weekend, that’s disgraceful but buying the game you have supported this move but I know its like being in between a rock and a hard place.

You read peoples views when they say " Your going to loose your freedom to play this" and think yeah thats true but they will make sure it works.

I find this totally hilarious. I haven't been able to access the Ubi Forums either at work or from home. Tried starting SH5 and itr loaded in about 5 seconds. maybe we should try those hamsters on steroids (HGH). :har:

I've no idea of course, but I'd speculate that the cause is a combination of DDOS and VIPDOS.

DDOS is not that hard to do - anyone can ping the server.
VIPDOS is not that hard to do - anyone with the game can try to play it.

BTW, if the hackers were really serious, they'd be trying PDOS attacks, which are less resource intensive than DDOS attacks but much more damaging...now that is something you don't want to hear.

For those of us not familiar with IT attacks, what is PDoS? (In general terms, please).

Funny thing is, most of you knew what you were buying into, with Ubisofts broken game and a hilarious DRM proposition, but yet you laid down 50 bucks for this turkey.

We expected occasional downtime from the Ubi servers, but NO ONE ( I REPEAT NO ONE) predicted a pirate group would launch a DDOS attack on the servers. I mean the pirates are meant to be on our side right? But they're the ones stopping us playing!

Permanent denial of service. Hardware sabotage that usually means a replacement or reinstallation to get things working again. Basically an attack on firmware (phlashing) to render the hardware useless.

One person could do more damage to the system than thousands of "pingers" could ever hope to achieve.

I thought it was the constant online requirement stopping you from playing? SH3 and SH4 work fine here despite all the pirate rumors and hulabaloo.

NO OSP/DRM is stopping you from playing!

I feel bad that you guys can't play...I honestly do...many of you have been my friends on here for some years now...but on the other hand I am glad this is happening, and I hope it makes UBI Suffer badly (maybe they will maybe they won't) from the outrage. At the same time though I am a bit (and I only mean a bit) irritated that any of you supported this game in the first place... so for what ever reason it's down it's down and they will go down again...people repeated over and over that this would happen and that it would not just be down from time to time but.....

Easy Tiger 03-13-10 06:34 PM

Probably true chief, but the 'always online' deal is precarious at best, even for those who have a rock-steady connection.

I'm just a bit disappointed that so many people seem to support Ubisoft's anti-consumerism I suppose :(

Juliano 03-13-10 06:40 PM

now thatīs scaring :o

Actually, mookiemookie speculated this back in February. A few people commented, but I think the idea was largely ignored as being "doomsday naysaying"...or perhaps even simply not understood.

Still, the suggestion was out there, so if buyers chose to not consider it a possibility (you know, because they had fast and stable(TM) internet connections)...

I totally expected it, given that the protection scheme requires a constant intarwebs connection. It was just begging for attack. *shrug*
