If you are right and it is actually U-596 then this is SECOND factual mistake I found in U-boat publications this week. :lol:
Too bad the picture is too grainy to identify the crest on the conning tower but I am still convinced that the picture in question is indeed U-201 and here is why:
U-201 carried the coat of arms of city of Remscheid.

U-596 in her whole career carried these three crests:

So if you take a good close look at the picture you can see that the crest on the conning tower is split in two halves (darker at the bottom and lighter on the top). I am leaning towards coat of arms of Remscheid.
Just out of curiosity, would you mind to share your source of the picture?
