That's NZ$100?

What's that in US? About $4.50 now?

In short, I don't respond well to Internet payware.:stare:

In short, I don't respond well to Internet piracy.

Well I saw the thread, read a couple of responses. I think some are looking for something free all the time. I appreciate all the fine work that GWX has done for the community. They never asked for a dollar. Made it seem that it is an act of love. And I believe it was. But for the quality and features it's worth a lot. From what I have seen from vanilla SH3 to GWX, I would have paid 50 bucks to have that difference if I'd have been presented with the differences to compare. Thanks GWX and Subsim, I've made my donations, and will continue to do so..............

There has always this mystigue feeling about mods; they have to be free all the time. And yes most simple mods like skins should be free. But if its expanded to total mods like GWX or plenty of other mods (Counter-strike for example) for any game it gets a bit different. The amount of time put in by the modders to create such mod is immense and why not ask something in return. I will never pay big bucks for a mod but a euro of 2 isnt a real problem. Think about the numbers here. Lets say GWX get downloaded 1000 times for 2 euro, and lets say 20 peeps work on it. Thats easily 100 euro for each modder. That wont cover their costs most likely but its a nice amount to get in return for your hobby. (Btw I have no idea how often GWX is downed nor the mod teams size, so the numbers are hypothetical)

There áre however same problems if modders gonna sell their 'product'. For a start they have to get premission from the developer/publisher to sell a mod made for their game/product. This gets tricky when we talk about reverse enginering (exe hacking)
Also try to figure out a system to sell your product without piracy. You cant really protect mods.

I do remember the aep expansion for il2. We had to pay for it.
Not much but...

So for gwx i shouldn`t care to pay. I will surely do.
It`s great and the developers gave/give their freetime for it.

GWX is worth.....what?

SH3 from Wal-Mart $ 38.00
Low latency 19" flat monitor $ 230.00
Custom computer rebuild $1,040.00
GWX Priceless!:up:

I think in order to further this survey, another interesting question would be:

How much would you pay for a great add-on/mod like the GWX but for SH4 :P

Seeing GWX is "freeware" and made with other mods that are free, plus what the GWX Team has done, the only way it could ever be sold is if all that are a part of it got a piece of the "action". And I doubt that will or should ever happen for the obvious reasons.

But if it was possible, I agree with Pants. Use the proceeds for a good cause. Like helping Neal with SS and Terrapin with his site, if he kept it going. I believe that would keep everyone involved happy. Even if it's put on a CD or DVD to pass around for those unable to download it, use the money to pay for the discs and what's left over go to the sites mentioned. Afterall, without the SS and UBRS sites we wouldn't have a place to bitch and moan and get these free downloads. ;)

Just my inconsequential 2cents.

@Fenris_Wolf

How far into the future are you looking ? :hmm:

@GT182

It was decided at it's earliest inception and stated by Kpt.Lehmann on numerous occasions here on SS, that GWX will always be FREE.....I don't disagree with you when you state that sites such as SS are worthy causes (I donate to SS on a personal level). However, the moral all of those over at GWX strictly adhere to is the one that states GWX was developed for the benefit of all those in the community and FREE at point of collection. :arrgh!:

I understand that Jimbuna. All I was say was a "what if senario". I'm always in full support of all those a GWX and the Kapt, you know that. I would never think of going against them to change their policies or how they work. It was only an "idea" to go along with the poll. ;)

My appologies if I offended anyone or the group at GWX. That was not my intention.

No apologise necessary GT, I don't believe you've offended anybody. The 'FREE FOR EVERYBODY' policy is the only one that matters over at GWX.
I'll admit to being a little puzzled over the reason for such a hypothesis though, considering your past involvement :hmm:

Salute :arrgh!:
