Good morning everyone
I don't feel like reading all of the 57 page; so I don't know if this problem has been addressed. This weekend, I came accross this glitch on sh5. I'm persuing a convoy in "Pride of the Royal Navy mission January 05, 1941, on the British escorts route". I see two King George V Battleship in the convoy. My XO and the recognition manuel conferms this. I attack and sink both of them. I don't get the credit and my mission is a failure. In the captain's log, I receive credit for two Dido Light Cruiser instead. Has this also happened to you ? andredr |
Don't know if this is reported earlier in this thread, but I realized that you can't reach the bottom of the sea... I was trying to evade enemy sonar in shallow water, about 40 meters deep. I checked depth under keel and got deeper trying to reach the bottom and lie there dead silent. Suddenly I hear that the hull touched the bottom, but I got about 18m of water still below me. External cam confimed this... Wonder if enemy escorts still can ping me, or am I now at the bottom for them also so they can't find me if I lay still and silent... Alt tabbed here to write this, so I think I'll find it out soon, going back to game now. Still, I didn't come across this before patch 1.2, I think...

But thanks for the info! I guess then that enemy sonar works flawlessly in storms and in the influence of other ship's propeller turbulence (like in the middle of the convoy) etc...? |
Only got the game yesterday. Lots of little things that bug me about it. Clearly it's intended to be a kiddies' arcade shooter. And a First Officer with an eye patch! What's this? Nelson's 18th century navy or the Kriegsmarine of the 1940s? And the whole of Britain has "England" written over it: that'll bug some Jocks and Taffys for sure; Liverpool is where Bristol should be as well. I remember how they had Liverpool wrongly positioned in the vanilla SH3. I thought that they could have at least got Liverpool's location correct: it was, after alll, the Royal Navy nerve centre for the Western Approaches and homeport of subkiller Captain John Walker RN.
Such historical inaccuracies bug me, though they wouldn't bother arcade shooters, I'm sure. And, unlike SH3, I cannot get my crew to speak German either and to have the whole show run in German. Aber wir haben gewisse Mittel, um sie zum Reden zu bringen! |

Improving by the hour now mods are being added. I still maintain that out of the box the game's "arcady", as many others have also pointed out. And there are far too many bugs and glitches, but that's almost as was to be expected from Ubisoft: SH4 was the same when it was released.
The graphics are outstanding: they make modded SH3 pale in comparison. But the question is, no matter how breathtaking it may be to cruise down Kiel Fjord after leaving one's submarine pen, does such "eye candy" improve the quality of the game? Sure, it's nice, but whenever I play SH3 with SH3Commander, I always opt for missions to start at sea: I want to get out there hunting. I have yet to experience SH5 on the hunt using manual targetting but I'm sure that it will be an exhilerating experience once the modders have got into action, if not before. As regards the comment that my complaint about the executive officer's eye-patch is a petty one, I think it no more a petty complaint than those made by many in this forum about the ringing of sea boots on metal ladder rungs, which occurrence, I should think, would not have been an unnatural one on board a submarine, whereas an eye-patch wearing serving officer at sea in a WWII U-Boot would have been unheard of. But each to his own taste. Über Geschmack läßt sich nicht streiten! |
my campaign is not moving on. I am sinking the ships that the mission needs to be completed and the bar is not moving.

Floating Rocks
I came across of floating rocks when I was stirring away from the convoy which had too many merchants equipped with long range cannons. I was at periscope depth watching my VIIC when I noticed that it's almost hitting underwater rocks when sea depth was 125 m. When I sent the camera down to my surprise it revealed that they were floating above the sea floor. I have a print screen of it but I failed to paste it to the posting.

Is anyone else having issues with the sub diving past your desired depth? IE set depth for 120m and later find your approaching 200m depth? my boat just don't want to hold its depth past 70+ meters... still running stock w/1.2 patch, holding off on the mods till i get the feel of what im doing.
