Reminded me of the video U2 shot for the song back in 1989; it was of a sort of mini-concert they did from the rooftop of a liquor store/restaurant in Downtown Los Angeles on the edge of Skid Row, an area of flop houses, transients, drug dens, etc.; in the video, one of the announcers on the soundtrack is heard advising caution for those who go down to see the filming, and that was actually very wise counsel since, even in broad daylight, the area was dangerous; the area has since been remarkably cleaned up and is even becoming gentrified; I used to work in a bank data center abut three blocks down from where this was shot and when I started working there in 1970, the area was much worse and was more akin to something out of the Wild West, and, since I was working the night shift til 1:00am, venturing out for meals, etc., was a continual adventure...
Although the video makes reference to crowd of "30,000", the actual turnout was around 1,55 to 2,000; the LAPD did, in fact try to shut down the filming (the force was still very wary of any gathering of young people and rock music), and they did actually cut power to the band's equipment from the mains, but U2's management had anticipated such a move by the police and had generators on site as backup...
