Now is the time to hit them with artillery and missiles while they are concentrated and out in the open.

Ukraine forces doing that and bombard the crossings they bypassed the road to Kherson and are near the dam huge crowds of Russians waiting on the bank of the river to get picked up, but there are not many boats to ferry that amount quickly. Ukrainian forces are currently marching towards Nova Kakhovka and Kherson, liberating one settlement after another. Russian forces are confined to two specific areas, around Kherson city and Beryslav front is broadly collapsing.

Could be any one of several battles but you're probably thinking of Vimy Ridge where the Germans were subjected to several days of non-stop concentrated fire by literally thousands of Allied artillery guns.

I don't think this is in that league though.

Russia's defence ministry says it has completed the withdrawal of troops from the key city of Kherson in Ukraine's south.

All soldiers were moved across the Dnipro river to the eastern bank early this morning, the defence ministry in Moscow said.

No military equipment or weapons were left behind on the west bank, it added.

Kherson remains the only regional capital to have been captured by Russia since the invasion began in February, so losing it is a significant blow.

Pictures from the ground appears to show that the bridge used by Russian troops to evacuate has been destroyed.

It's unclear what caused the bridge to collapse, some Russian sources claim that they destroyed it themselves, having completed the withdrawal process.

Meanwhile, President Volodymyr Zelensky said overnight that Ukrainian forces had retaken dozens of towns and villages as they advanced towards Kherson city.

Moscow's commander in Ukraine announced the withdrawal on Wednesday saying it wasn't possible to continue supplying the city.

Before or after the Russians blew it up...? :hmmm:

They say all the time "left" and "right" of the Dnepr. That makes no sense, what left and what right is depends on the direction from which you look at it. Why cant they say "north and north-western" and "south and south-eastern" beach of the river...? Then it would be clear what is meant. I do not even know whether the Russians and Ukrainians have a consensus between them what beach side they mean when they talk of the left and the right beach.
