You can drive all the subs you want and you can see the war out. You just don't get to do it in the same sub or with the same commander - because no one ever did that. Personally I don't understand why anyone would want to have a game experience that doesn't simulate what real commanders faced. But if that's what other people want they should have it as an option. But it shouldn't be forced on the rest of us - again, this is supposed to be a simulation, not an arcade game. |
The way the SH4 Devs have screwed up this Sim ( excuse me, I think UBI calls it a game, you know to get the casual gamer to buy :hmm: ) I'm just wondering if we can go all the way to the end of the war, with any sub.
But in the end it will be the SH 4 Modders whom will get the honors for most of SH4 Simulation play and I'm one player whom honors them. |

It's almost as if they're ashamed of their most loyal customers. After all, the casual players won't be here when the next arcade shooter comes along. I spurn Ubisoft, and I wait with hope that a company will come along to PROUDLY take the mantle that Ubisoft stole when Dynamix went under. |
Icons in the damage / subsystem screen do not match the system named.
Eg.. Components: Decoy launcher has the deck gun pic, deck gun has a 50 cal pic?? In systems: The deck gun system has a picture of a torpedo, The Compressor has a picture of the rear of conning tower (AA gun) etc etc etc Lazy.... did you think we wouldn't notice... |

I believe Ubisoft is fixing the bug in the next version. |

Well then I had better slow down my Sub a little to say 1/3 ? I surely dont want to crash now for I've been lucky and have only crashed one time in two patrols and that was before I had the "A" key fix. And I have a funny feeling its going to be awhile for 1.2 as there is a lot of those squirmy little bugs. http://i4.photobucket.com/albums/y11...an/crazy21.gif |
Yet another bug never fixed by the devs in SH3 that has carried over to SH4, the horrible screeching when you spawn in a mission with subnets. This should have been FIXED in a patch, not 3rd party modded back in SH3.
I think it's really great for the 3rd party guys to modify things but one would have thought the devs would have at least reviewed the bugs from Sh3 and not carried them over. Sheesh! |

Now, here is an overview I compiled of the many, many things wrong (probably the single most important technology in the Pacific submarine campaign): Now here is how things should be in summary: -SD radar: range and relative motion only. Range greatly shortened. No surface contacts (save possibly very close). Able to be detected by enemy with RI gear as all radar should. Able to be turned on/off. (should this have an A-scope type display? don't know) -Improved SD: unknown? Is this supposed to be SV radar? If so, it should not be available until 1945. -SJ radar: A-scope display only. -SJ-1 radar: A-scope and PPI displays. -oh, and radar should function regardless of your sub's compass heading. ;) Some things missing needed for full implementation of radar: -bearing indication at radar station (sonar has that little notepad, but why not radar). -ability to send surface contact bearing and range to TDC and orders for crew to do so. -same orders as available as sonar (report contact/track contact). -ability to scan only a sector with surface-search radar and receive more precise and timely information (i.e. scan only forward quarter, etc.) -land should return a signal, should make finding targets near shoreline very difficult. land should be visible in plan form on PPI display, providing aid to navigation. -ST radar: antenna in periscope. Used to capture precise range to target to be fed to TDC, just as with the stadimeter. -SV air-search radar (or at least proper time for this if same as improved SD) |
Another one for you SH4 Devs.
http://i4.photobucket.com/albums/y11...rsusmeters.jpg Check out the 4 meter wind speed makeing those hugh waves. Uh huh, right. What happened to the rain gear ? Our guys wern't waterproof. :-? ( or were they? ) I've tried the ole SH3 trick and did a "periscope then surface" but still they come to the bridge this way. http://i4.photobucket.com/albums/y11...stlikerain.jpg Geeze, hope they don't catch a cold from being soaked. :o http://i4.photobucket.com/albums/y11...Noraingear.jpg |
Yeah. One thing I wish they'd implemented is different clothing for different weather. It seems these crewmen are worse off than SH3's. At least SH3 had rainwear. I was patrolling in the Aleutians in a November rainstorm the other day. The temperature must have been well below zero, but the only thing the crew did was put on long-sleeved shirts. I guess guys were hardier back in those days.

The tooltip text for the radar stations is reversed (that is, it should be as follows):
5681=GO TO A-SCOPE RADAR|Takes you immediately to the A-scope radar. The A-scope radar is only effective when the submarine is surfaced. 5682=GO TO PPI RADAR|Takes you immediately to the radar station room. The PPI radar is only effective when the submarine is surfaced. |
I've seen my deck watch in rain gear. It was pretty heavy rain. Maybe the raingear trigger just needs tweaking.

These are some screen shots I just took in one of my custom MP mission with heavy rain.

There any date on the 1.2 patch yet or even a rough eta?:hmm:

Depth charges in the water
Sorry if this has already been mentioned but we do not get the "Depth charges in the water" report from the hydrophones which every sim since AOD and SHI have had. I hope that can be addressed in a patch or mod. Joe S
