May 25th, 1942...No Upgrades Available
So I've started a fleet boat career in a Gar, and on returning from my last patrol was just promoted to a Gato. I have however noticed, even up to this point on May 25th 1942, I still do not have a single upgrade available.
Still stuck with the single .50cal AA gun, stern mounted 3" deck gun, no surface search radar available still. I am unsure if this is something to do with FOTRSU 0.80 or something else, as I used to play a lot of 0.7 and it worked just fine back then. https://i.imgur.com/ssmax8Z.jpg I wish I could at least find this "Patch 5" I keep seeing mentioned, hoping it would remedy this. That or is it possible to edit my save files in some way to change what equipment my boat currently has, at least as an interim until this is fixed? |

The changes to the mod are: 1. Campaign files for Jap Harbor Traffic, all have one correction each. The US and Jap AirCover files are slightly altered. The US NavalBases has been updated, and a couple of bad "Name=" lines removed. The Campaign.cfg has been altered to remove a file, and altered others. Other files in the Campaign have been split and / or combined with others. The Messages.txt has been edited to attempt to more closely follow the Asiatic Fleet to the South West Pacific Area Command to the 7th Fleet, as well as changing some of the base changes notifications. The DynamicMiss.cfg has been re-activated by removing some of the commented-out lines, ~AND~, since KaleunMarco found a duplicates issue in PatrolObjectives, I found the same one in DynamicMiss. Quite amazing. I'll have to post about that in the thread here in a few days, if when you guys go to test this, that it works... Anyway, a Patrol Kuriles mission in PatrolObjectives was edited to have correct names. 2. Sim.cfg altered 3. Land and Ordnance empty files added to "fake-out" SH4 Validator checks. 4. The Orders Map, when the player is going on patrol was re-sized so that the "Star" for objective designation would spot better. 5. Added a couple of more Australian DD. Now I have to add them to the layers... 6. Sea folder corrections to the Tone damage model, and to swap the draft figures for the two Ada and Aden Marus 7. Sim file changes to all subs for hopefully better physics during operations. UPC file changes for the Balao and Tench, restricting them to similar dates as before. Fingers are crossed for those two. 8. Terrain folder changes are just additional "art" elements for map drawings for future missions, which it is unknown when I'll get to that. 9. That propeller Texture was re-sized and added 10. Several UPC changes, with changes to the Flotillas and PatrolObjectives files the main changes, but also CareerStart (Front Runner's findings) and the UPCLocalization.tsr file, which will hopefully allow the Transfer screen to populate correctly, as well as a few other nigglies noticed with text and finding a %s or %c or %d for an actual "String", "Character" or "Digit"... |

The change of the weapons (Deck Gun; AA Guns) will occur automatically. This was done to eliminate a Stock game problem that would not give you a specific weapon after having it "offered" and you paying for it with accumulated renown (again, a long standing issue with the Stock game). You'd buy the upgraded weapon, or change the position of the Deck Gun, only to discover no gun at all placed on the sub. A player will be given the upgrade when in port, it will cost nothing to upgrade to either a larger gun, or to reposition the Deck Gun Cannon. The following are the availability dates for the various upgrades: S-Class Submarines Surface Search Radar (SJ Radar) 1942-06-01 to 1943-05-31 (SJ-1 Improved) 1943-06-01 to 1945-12-31 Air Search Radar (SD Radar) 1941-12-01 to 1943-03-11 (Improved SD Radar) 1943-03-12 to 1945-12-31 Deck Gun (3inch .50cal) 1941-12-01 to 1942-07-31 (4inch .50cal) 1942-08-01 to 1943-12-31 (5inch .25cal) 1944-01-01 to 1945-12-31 AA Gun (.50cal Browning) 1941-12-01 to 1942-05-01 (20mm Oerlikon Single) 1942-05-02 to 1942-12-31 (20mm Oerlikon Twin) 1943-01-01 to 1945-12-31 =================== Porpoise ; Tambor ; Gar ; Gato ; Salmon ; Sargo Submarines Surface Search Radar (SJ Radar) 1942-06-01 to 1943-05-31 (SJ-1 Improved) 1943-06-01 to 1944-12-31 (ST Radar) 1945-01-01 to 1945-12-31 Air Search Radar (SD Radar) 1941-12-01 to 1943-03-11 (Improved SD Radar) 1943-03-12 to 1944-12-31 ( SV Elite Radar) 1945-01-01 to 1945-12-31 Deck Gun (3inch .50cal Stern Mount) 1941-12-01 to 1942-03-31 (3inch .50cal Bow Mount) 1942-04-01 to 1942-07-31 (4inch .50cal Stern Mount) 1942-08-01 to 1942-12-31 (4inch .50cal Bow Mount) 1943-01-01 to 1943-12-31 (5inch .25cal Stern Mount) 1944-01-01 to 1944-07-31 (5inch .25cal Bow Mount) 1944-08-01 to 1945-03-01 (5inch .25cal Twin Cannons) 1945-03 02 to 1945-12-31 AA Gun (.50cal Browning) 1941-12-01 to 1942-05-01 (20mm Oerlikon Single) 1942-05-02 to 1942-12-31 (20mm Oerlikon Twin) 1943-01-01 to 1943-07-31 (40mm Bofors Single) 1943-08-01 to 1944-05-31 (40mm Bofors Twin) 1944-06-01 to 1945-12-31 ================== Narwhal Submarine Surface Search Radar (SJ Radar) 1942-06-01 to 1943-05-31 (SJ-1 Improved) 1943-06-01 to 1944-12-31 (ST Radar) 1945-01-01 to 1945-12-31 Air Search Radar (SD Radar) 1941-12-01 to 1943-03-11 (Improved SD Radar) 1943-03-12 to 1944-12-31 ( SV Elite Radar) 1945-01-01 to 1945-12-31 Deck Gun (4inch .50cal Twin) 1941-12-01 to 1945-12-31 AA Gun (.50cal Browning) 1941-12-01 to 1942-05-01 (20mm Oerlikon Single) 1942-05-02 to 1942-12-31 (20mm Oerlikon Twin) 1943-01-01 to 1943-07-31 (40mm Bofors Single) 1943-08-01 to 1944-05-31 (40mm Bofors Twin) 1944-06-01 to 1945-12-31 =================== Balao ; Tench Submarines Surface Search Radar (SJ Radar) 1942-06-01 to 1943-05-31 (SJ-1 Improved) 1943-06-01 to 1944-12-31 (ST Radar) 1945-01-01 to 1945-12-31 Air Search Radar (SD Radar) 1941-12-01 to 1943-03-11 (Improved SD Radar) 1943-03-12 to 1944-12-31 ( SV Elite Radar) 1945-01-01 to 1945-12-31 Deck Gun (3inch .50cal Stern Mount) 1941-12-01 to 1942-03-31 (3inch .50cal Bow Mount) 1942-04-01 to 1942-07-31 (4inch .50cal Stern Mount) 1942-08-01 to 1942-12-31 (4inch .50cal Bow Mount) 1943-01-01 to 1943-12-31 (5inch .25cal Stern Mount) 1944-01-01 to 1944-07-31 (5inch .25cal Bow Mount) 1944-08-01 to 1945-03-01 (5inch .25cal Twin Cannons) 1945-03 02 to 1945-12-31 AA Gun (20mm Oerlikon Single) 1941-12-01 to 1942-12-31 (20mm Oerlikon Twin) 1943-01-01 to 1943-07-31 (40mm Bofors Single) 1943-08-01 to 1944-05-31 (40mm Bofors Twin) 1944-06-01 to 1945-12-31 A player will be able to choose if he wishes to keep his current equipment or step-up to the next upgrade. The Radar's for all subs will be provided at the above dates, however for a price of Renown, the units may be able to be purchased earlier, depends on date and specific equipment. This list will be in the next release version under "Support". I should point out regarding Hydrophone "passive" sonar use, that the S-Class, Narwhal, and Porpoise submarines require you to be submerged before the Hydrophone Station will provide the player with a detected target (allowing you to "hear" the ship). Your Sonar man will detect and report a finding by using "active" Sonar, but for the player to "hear" a target, you'll need to have the passive Hydrophone receiver (that's "deck" mounted on these three early submarines) to be below the surface. The active Sonar sending/receiving unit is mounted on the bottom of the hull on ALL subs, allowing for surfaced active Sonar use by either the Crew AI (Sonar man), or you the player, while at the Hydrophone/Sonar Station. The S-Class does not change passive Hydrophone deck mounted receivers throughout the war. You'll always need to be submerged to manually use the passive Hydrophone with the S-Class subs. However, both Porpoise and Narwhal will receive a hull mounted passive Hydrophone receiver after September, 1942 allowing the sub to be surfaced and still hear a passive Hydrophone found target.. ============= ============= As far as a "Patch 5".....that's something that should have NEVER been brought up in open Forum discussions. One of the guys on the team produced it for only a few to try and for some reason it got "Published" here in this thread!? There is no "Patch" available for the community. There's a new version coming soon (I HOPE), talk to the guy who's got his name on this thread about when? |
Hi Captains!
Is it OK to ask here for information on this mod? I read that it will be configurable, so I am interested in it. I have just read ~60 pages in this thread, but I was confused. Here are my questions, I hope you don't mind (plz assume that I don't know anything about anything. I am fairly new to SH4, and have only played the stock version. Interested in single-player only): - Only US fleet or uboats too? - Only Pacific or Atlantic too? - Level of AI customizable, right? Will I be able to roll back any major change from stock individually? - Any changes to the campaign? - Known major issues for current version? I am basically looking for a mega mod that lets me customize all the major changes. I have high hopes for you! Thank you for your service! |
Hey there TS13! I can give you some rough answers, the others can flesh the points out further than me:

TMO had much more aggressive AI's I even had merchants try to ram me. I hope the next iteration is harder like that. |

Prepare for the next release!
As we await the next release...…"Ultimate Edition v0.81 RC1 Public Beta" (should be anytime now), there are a few things every player should do to make sure their Stock game is ready.
1. Run JSGME's "Compare game files to snapshot" feature from it's "Tasks..." menu (found in the center of the JSGME main page). Your Stock game files should be exactly as they were when you first took that "Snapshot" way back when you first installed the game, with JSGME added. YOU DID TAKE A "SNAPSHOT" DIDN"T YOU?!?! If NOT?!? Reinstall the game and this time with a clean install..... take one!! How will you know your game isn't corrupt by mod/file changing if you don't have a reference to go back to? JSGME has a README explaining what to do.....READ IT and follow the instructions. 2. Delete your "Documents/SH4" folder before running the game with the new "Ultimate Edition v0.81 RC1 Public Beta" added. You'll have to reset your game Options/Graphics setting for your specific monitor resolution, exit the game, and restart for the resolution to take effect. But, that's a small price to pay for insuring your Stock game is ready for the changes "Ultimate" will bring to the game. Don't use any of your old saved games, let any new saves be made from a clean start with the latest edition added. Old saved games will not run correctly with the newer files from "Ultimate v0.81".....don't use them! By deleting the previous SH4 folder, you're deleting those older saves and setting up your game with a fresh start. Do this now, and do it anytime you think there's trouble with corruption to the Stock game files. 3. By all means, follow the guidance from "Windows10; Large Address Aware; SH4 Install" if you have a newer computer than Windows XP, and have more than 3 gigs of RAM memory!! |

Please pay attention to CapnScurvy's post just before this one. Previous game saves will not work with v0.81. You must start a brand new career!
New version as of 3/20/2019 100_FalloftheRisingSun_Ultimate_v0.81_RC1_PublicBe ta_EN. Lotsa changes and I want to do justice to describing them. I'm just out of time tonight and will write it tomorrow, but I wanted you to have the new version! CapnScurvy worked his butt off to make this one special and I want to do justice to his efforts. |
Captain propbeanie, thank you for your reply. My timing is bad, so I will let you guys concentrate on your new release. Looking forward to FOTRSU getting to official release version (so that the customization mods start rolling in!)
|
TS13, your timing is NOT bad. The next release will have the fixes for the German side, so that it will be as playable as the Stock version is, which isn't very... I mean, you are on a German submarine, and you are in the Southwest Pacific and the Indian Ocean, but... Ubisoft never "fleshed" it out completely. :salute:

Hi! I'm a returning player from some time ago. Installed FOTRS on a clean install from Uplay version.
Everything looks fine, but sounds from the mod doesn't work at all (ambience, engines, etc). I opened the sounds directory from the mod, and I can't play any sound on Windows Media or VLC player. Any ideas? |
