EU Brexit negotiator Michel Barnier has warned that a transition period immediately after Brexit in 2019 is "not a given".

I'm growing to like this guy....he speaks a lot of common sense, so hopefully Merkel and Macron in particular will heed his advice because nor is the reported £40 billion plus they seek to take some of the burdon off their respective budgets 'a given'.

UKIP leader Henry Bolton is confident he will win the backing of his party in a vote of members next weekend, he told the BBC's Andrew Marr.

Mr Bolton suggested he was still in a relationship with Jo Marney, whose racist texts about Meghan Markle sparked a no-confidence vote in him.

"There are strong affections there, yes," he told Andrew Marr.

But he said the party had to reform under his leadership or continue to be on the sidelines in the Brexit debate.

Setting politics aside for a moment, I'm beginning to admire this guy for taking/making a stand for what he believes is right.

UKIP is finished and after this weekend if Henry remains as leader that will seal there fate.

The UK and Irish governments have been "left embarrassed" after leaving Belfast without a deal to restore devolution.

Theresa May and Leo Varadkar attended talks with Northern Ireland's main political parties on Monday.

It was widely anticipated that the DUP and Sinn Féin were close to ending their 13-month stalemate.

But a DUP source told the BBC a deal was "not likely" on Monday and both leaders left empty handed.

Still no deal in sight :nope:

Opposite poles in this instance which actually repel one another.

Democratic Unionist Party leader Arlene Foster has said there will be no free-standing Irish Language act.

However, Sinn Féin said an Irish Language act is "essential" to any deal that restores the power-sharing executive at Stormont.

Why don't you butt out of it Maybot and let them get on with it. They don't need you rushing over to NI holding press conferences like some kind of control freak.

Jimbuna 02-14-18 06:38 AM

^ There lies the problem, both sides are refusing to 'get on with it' and this has been going on for thirteen months now, hence NI is currently being run by civil servants.

Soon the clown will hold centre stage and sort out all the Brexit fears

Boris Johnson is attempting to reassure voters who are angry and alienated by Brexit that the UK's split from the EU is a cause for "hope not fear".

The foreign secretary is using a speech to try to build bridges with those who voted to remain in the EU, saying their belief in European solidarity is based on "noble sentiments".

No big fan of politicians despite my 'insider' experiences and acquaintances over past years but who else would run the country?
