more than likely you are used to playing the German of SH4 where a Kaleun does not have to open the tube door to fire...it just happens as part of the fire-torpedo-process. unfortunately the UBIsoft programmers used different code sequences for the US-side and you need to open the door(s) manually before you fire. good luck. :salute: |

In SH5 The Wolves of Steel you can press only the button and it opens the door plus shoots. Of course it looses the 2-3 Seconds to flood before the torpedo runs. Thought it would work the same in SH4. Have to try it tonight again. Q and then Firebutton. :-) |

S-Boats and Mark 14 torpedoes
"FotRSU does not allow Mk14s on an Sboat, and it does not allow Mk10s on any from V-class up through all the Fleet Boats. It's not in the equipment files. If you are getting that, then there is a cross-contamination of your mod and / or Save files Michael Wood."
I reinstalled Silent Hunter 4, deleted the SH4 save data file folder, started a new campaign in an S-Boat in Asiatic Fleet, fired four torpedoes while at the dock, ended patrol and upon returning to the office checked my torpedo load out. The four torpedoes fired were replaced with Mark 14s. The bug is very easily reproduced, following the steps listed. 1) Start a campaign. 2) Fire four torpedoes at while at dock. 3) End patrol. 4) Go to torpedo screen and see the Mark 14 replacements. Hope this helps. |

Long time question regarding SH4...why vegetation is almost absent, except along harbors and some very few areas?
There are plenty islands completely nude...in fact maybe 80% of the map... I know it’s just cosmetic, and main stuff are ships, submarines, and campaign...but...a bit immersion killer :D Pacific areas without vegetation is kind of strange, knowing it’s absolute contrary. Is it to save RAM or else? Adding vegetation would have a huge impact? |

there is always one guy... in the words of my information-technology-brethren, WFC. this is a game of submarines vs ships and vice versa. i believe that a modder CAN determine the vegetation level but i also believe that it is typically centered around the ports/harbors...because nobody cares about the inland areas. if you want to play GI Joe with jungles and deserts and city streets, go buy Tank Killer or Spec Ops. :har::har::har: |

Terrain Objects DensityThe Density slider goes to the right, the LOD Size slider to the left. If you use a text editor on the file, the minimum for LOD is 4. Max is 10. We had a tester a few weeks ago wondering why they couldn't see the dock at Takanabe. That is what it came down to, was the settings. Here are some of the pix from that: https://i.imgur.com/44f8E2R.jpg The dock up reasonably close https://i.imgur.com/wGUzmvG.jpg As you step back, the details begin to fade and blur https://i.imgur.com/oo563fo.jpg Further down the beach, a view of trees across a field and river mouth https://i.imgur.com/6vbqnDB.jpg A bit further back, they start fading and some dropping from the scene https://i.imgur.com/qEncwB6.jpg Just a little further back, they are all gone from the scene's view Now, if you already have your graphics set-up correctly, please forgive me for mentioning this. :salute: |
Yes, that was probably stupid question, but question nevertheless...
Even SH3 has more vegetation, not to say SH5 of course (thanks to Gap), but was always wondering about SH4 « nudity » from day one, so my asking. Of course it doesn’t affect gameplay, just a bit for immersion, only in my opinion. And you have other stuff to enhance before trees :Kaleun_Cheers: |
There is no such thing as a stupid question, except the one that doesn't get asked. I've played SH3 for years, and never have noticed the vegetation (could this be correlated to "stop and smell the roses"??). I'm going to have to do that now that you've mentioned this. It is one of the first things you notice in SH5. If gap & Jeff can get a terrain editor that can "paint" trees (and rocks & grass etc.) for SH4, then I will be more inclined to attempt to alter the landscape. As it stands now, it would take some "gap" skills. Maybe we can talk him into this. after he finishes with his myriad other mods in SH5... ?? :arrgh!: :salute:
