I was listening to the local classical music station when the test occurred; just the usual "this is a test" sort of sounds at first, then a recorded voice started to announce something about this being a national test, but a few seconds into the announcement, the voice became garbled, the the transmission turned into a lot of static with the recorded announcement so very faint as to be indicernible. Then the test ended and normal programming continued. So much for the big event...

Heh, reminds me of a film I saw briefly once of a Brady Bunch type family that went down into their shelter doing the Cuban Missile Crisis and stayed down there thinking the world had been destroyed. Then they came back up sometime in the 1980s thinking at first it was the Mad Max society. I think it was the son that went up to the surface...something like that. It was quite amusing in the generation clash kinda way.
