I used a picture of Sheldon from Big Bang Theory... what can I say, I just watched a ton of it.

I compared you to one of our early members, Sharkstooth, or Sharkey for short. That related to the hardcore attitude. But you also share this in common. She attended a couple of Subsim meetings, and absolutely insisted that her face not be shown in the group pictures, so it was overlaid with the cartoon version drawn by torplexed.

I agree, it's a good idea, especially for a woman, to not be giving away too much information. I can't speak for anyone else here, even the men, but I let my picture and info out simply because I've reached a point in my life where I have nothing left to lose. Also guys tend not to think about things that might happen. Women are much better at that.:sunny:

Generally speaking, we have to be. Not that I consider it an issue with the people I've interacted with here on a regular basis, but as with any large internet group most members don't interact with other members on a regular basis and many never do - so no one never gets to know them at all. But they still have access to whatever information is put out there.

To tell the truth it's more of a personal boundaries thing for me than anything "gender-related" - most of my bad experiences as a result of giving out personal info to people I met online have been with other women, not with men. And certainly nothing that endangered anyone's personal safety as far as I could tell, but enough lines were crossed that I learned where my boundaries are and how best to protect them.

It's from a once-ubiquitous ad campaign here in the States designed to get people to eat more pork products. The tag line referred to pork as "the other white meat." (I guess "other" as opposed to white meat from chicken or turkey which must've been perceived as more popular, thus the pork industry's ads.)
