I agree. Something is fishy. Did Ubi try and pull a fast one on Neal and the Subsim community? :hmmm:

I think we'll all be watching this closely.

Indeed, and thanks for letting us see the result. I'm beginning to wonder if it checks once on sign in, and not thereafter. The connection being used to verify on load, and then again when saving your games. But as you say, until the retail product is available, we don't really know what their system does.

If Assassin's Creed 2 is anything to go by though, I'm worried. It uses the same OSP (apparently), and several previewers have said that it instantly kicks you from the game when your net is disconnected.

You could use Fraps to record the login or start-up of the game and then switch to your external camera view showing the disconnect in progress.

Best Regards,

Your Producer. :haha:

Thanks, producer :haha: But Fraps does not record anything for me until a game starts. Of course, I may not be using it right (likely), or it could be that by using a legit and paid for version of Fraps, I am missing some of the neat features to be found in the millions of illegal copies. :O:

But, I like the idea. I'm going to wait until the review copy shows up to test again. Will let you know what I learn.

See I'm just confused, and that's not good.
Some SH5 previews said, a message box came up on Internet disconnection, and you had to save and drop to desktop.
You demonstrated a minute of disconnnected play.
Assansins Creed preview said much more grim stuff.

So what do I know? I know a connection is needed ok, but how critical is it for SH5 to continue playing. Can an hour of disconnection be ok? What happens when the application says "ok enough disconnection", do I get to save? See lots of questions :DL Oh well we wait...

No, you're using it right. Fraps only captures game applications. To capture desktop activities an application like Camtasia is required. ;)

pausing the game is sort of interruption.
normally just I decide when I pause my game, won't let UBI (or any other source) do that for me.

Neal I use Capture by AnalogX. Go here:

http://www.analogx.com/cgi-bin/cgisr...&submit=Search

Download what you need. :yeah:

Captured this Yahoo page using "Capture".

http://i4.photobucket.com/albums/y116/oleman/YoNeal.jpg

A very useful tool sometimes. TheCapture camera icon is shown here as a "Camera Flash" on the task bar ( third icon from left ). Normally the icon just looks like a camera. When you boot up your computer the "Capture" icon is located with the other icons on your desktop, just click on it and it will stay ( until reboot or you remove it ) in bottom task tray.

You may pick one of his newer ones as mine is from Win 98 and works like a charm..........If it ain't broke, don't fix it. :arrgh!:

Looks like it's only a screen capture utility.

Actually you're wrong, FRAPS does capture desktop video if you have the latest version and select "Monitor Areo Desktop" it will work fine. I just did it to make sure I was remembering correctly. I'll post it if you don't believe me. ;)

THE_MASK 02-18-10 09:20 PM

There is no way Ubi would give Neal or anyone an unsecure non DRM game . That would just defeat the whole DRM purpose .

What is "Monitor Areo Desktop" ? Are you using Vista?

Which version of Fraps are you using?

It's only screen capture Neal. It's what tools like Fraps don't pick up ( I.E. not playing a game ) like desktop activities.

I thought that's what you wanted?

MMmmm I'm getting confused now. ( which is my middle name. LOL )

Win7 and that's the option that needs to be selected within FRAPS to capture all the desktop activities. Latest version is 3.1.1

Onkel Neal 02-18-10 09:29 PM

Ok, downloaded the latest version from the members' area, thanks, I'll see how it goes.

Onkel Neal 02-18-10 09:33 PM

No problem, glad I could help and I hope it works for what you want it for.

Onkel Neal 02-18-10 09:36 PM

I was right ;) I cannot capture desktop video with Fraps :O:

You can, maybe, but I can't.
