i have to say, the water renderer in the august screenshots wasn't that impressive, but in the winter shots that came out in october, the water looks absolutely stunning~!
|
I like how it looks on the surface, but underwater is again BAD. I won't hold my breath for variable visibility, but they should at least make it 100 % murky at 100 meters. Which I'll probably mod to 50 meters :haha:. If I remember my physics correctly, when you're near the surface and look parallel with the water, you see a reflection of what's below. The more you look up, the more you see the sky and less reflection. If that red spot in the pic is a reflection of the sub, the OK, if it's the fire of the wreck mirroring on the other side of the surface, that's BAD. In one game I've seen them making the water very blurry, to mimic the effect on human eyes. Sure, the cameras don't have that but it was a nice touch... Another problem with SH has been the sea floor. It's too bright. It should be indeed bright if the water is shallow and the sun is shining, but otherwise it should be shadowed. And also, the haze that they used so far cuts too abruptly (maybe because of modding). The pic shows a much better haze. Oh , and I don't want to see SHET underwater at night. BTW, you guys remember the default water in SH3? :D You could see the Mariana Trench bottom.

underwater particles and plankton is a must-have

Sh3 not looking realistic enough? We must talk about different games then...: ;)

Why? They look like crap in SH4 and don't do a thing for immersion or gameplay. |
Can one even see plankton at that level? :hmmm:
Unless, of course, it's http://images3.wikia.nocookie.net/ca...x-Plankton.png |

Playing Operation Monsun atm and as good as the mod is, SH4 itself has clearly problems rendering the North Sea convincingly. It seems those 2 games were tailor-cut for the environments they were supposed to play in. And to show you that SH4 really is better in rendering the Pacific and to confirm your statement about the realistic pacific: http://img514.imageshack.us/img514/5...5454625.th.jpg http://img22.imageshack.us/img22/462...2535250.th.jpg And to confirm my statement about the more realistic north sea in SH3: http://img209.imageshack.us/img209/1...4323178.th.jpg I don't know EXACTLY what the difference is, but I think the water and the sky in SH3 look colder, rougher, less colorful. A sunset like those in the Pacific would surely surprise everyone here. (I envy you for them :88) ) |

And I agree - SH3 does indeed catch that 'cold' feeling. I just think that with 4 they've come a lot closer to actually looking like a photograp. From the shots so far it looks like SH5 may capture both. I hope it turns out that way when we actually play the game. |
You are absolutely right, SH4 does NOT look cartoonish, it simulates a totally different area, weather, ocean and does that very good.
|
The only thing I don't like with SH4 sea is in the evening & morning, looks too black to me!!:hmmm:
|
Has nothing to do with screenshots... but on the german ubi forum the devs said there would be a nw video released today...
maybe it would also be good to make this thread sticky so that everyone can get a good idea of Sh5 - you know picturs tell more than thousand words ;) |
A video, 'bout time :D
