I've yet to run out of fuel in my Type IIA. Generally, my torpedoes have all put things at the bottom of the sea long before I make it down to 50% fuel. Hunting the English east coast is fun! You should give the Type IIs another shot. I waited for a long time, and I was really missing out.

I would say type VIIB for me.

It has good range for all but the most prolonged US east coast hunt. It's comparatively fast both surfaced and submerged and best of all, it crash dives extremely quickly. It's marginally faster than the VIIC, and although it isn't rated to go as deep, it can go more than deep enough to evade all but the worst screwing. She's a nimble little thing and can be extremely stealthy.

Sure, the IX is faster, can carry more eels and has a greater range, but I reckon the VII is a better all-rounder. A big factor for me is that the big type IX also can't run decks awash half as stealthily as a VII can.

Do you stay surfaced during air attacks? i only use my flac to help the deck gun for sinking the last ship when i run out of 88's. I always dive.... risk for damage is to high.

Ahem...

er yeah my fave defo, you do fall in love with the boats, and the VIIB is what i love the C is nice but i don't like the bow.

Me too, learned that a hard way after firing torpedoes thought to finish last guy with deck gun, bruh watch officer said we're under attack

I don't really have a specific preference.

I mostly play with the VIIB.
VIIC and IX are pretty nice too. The IX uboats pack a lot of torpedoes, and are good for long range patrols. (also has a strong 105 mm deckgun)

The VIIB and VIIC are the more ordinary boats.
I don't have a lot of experience with the upgraded VIIC's, 41 and 42. Also didn't play a lot with the XXI elektro boat.

The IIA and IID are nice little coastal boats. Good for short range combat (raiding ports)

Type IX of course, 22 torpedoes vs 14 torpedoes on Type VII => more tonnage per patrol :arrgh!:
Plus 105 mm deckgun.
Easy choice.

Agreed :yep:

Would like to see the exact difference in payload between the 105mm and 88mm deck gun.

It seems the 105mm can sometimes sink a ship with only two accurate shots.

When firing with the deck gun 105 or 88, i always try to shoot at the waterline. Instead of the ship itself (tower, bridge)
And just let it sink after a while.

That is precisely how I use the deck gun.

Bigger holes and damage for 105 mm deckgun.

waterline - yeah, same + aiming at engine room and spreading the under waterline hits across the length of ship to flood all compartments when shelling bigger ships.

I hardly go underwater unless I spot a ship or i am waiting for one or weather is too bad so occassionally for hydrophones. Also due to the fact it's 1941.

Im quite happy in Type 7 or 9 of any kind, I just hate the Type 7Bs Turm II, i call it the 'twat Turm' because if I have one then Im just being twat for not upgrading to a Type 7C.
I cant stand the Type II, great dive times but eveything else about it is a waste of space, fight me! :D

well, when I have started with Type II I had to move to flotilla with Type VIIBs.
I need to have a fun with deckgun with all those unarmed ships around :arrgh!:

Raf1394 04-27-25 10:24 AM

I use the Type II's for short patrols.
Raiding coastal ports of England. :)
