i will check it, i believe it is... i havent had any reports of it not being in german...

M. Sarsfield 03-19-08 10:53 AM

I installed the newer FuMo-30 radar last night and I can't remember if I was getting German or English radar reports. I haven't installed the latest version of this sound mod, though. It was just a thought off the top of my head.

Another thought is damage reports.

M. Sarsfield 03-20-08 09:58 AM

I verified that the radar contacts are in German. A while ago someone fixed the "Destroyer Making Attack Run" sound. Has this one been converted to German, too?

Last night i was getting a good working over by escorts, i heard 2 reports of deck gun damaged in english, so i need to look at those.

then i'll update this.

as far as attack run, i havent had that sound feature activated, i didnt think it worked....

M. Sarsfield 03-20-08 10:08 AM

You can find the fix in the 4th post down...
http://www.subsim.com/radioroom/show...stroyer+attack

I've gotten this report a few times, but I rarely see DD's on my patrols - I mainly patrol out of Freemantle.

I have been looking into modding this myself as I too enjoy the german voices when playing in German subs. While I, for the time being, will just rename the speech folders when I want german, I feel that is really low-tech. I would like to incorporate a toggle in the sound options. Besides the speech file, there is a .cfg file in SH3 that sets a numeric value of 1 for english voices and 2 for German, and 3 for French. I copied that file over to SH4 as well as the speech folder with the german voices. I simply have to find a place to put a toggle switch to set the value of voices to 1 or 2 and then make it all work. One more thing, in the main folder, there are two files called sound.act and shsound.act How do I open them and what do they do. I tried moving the ones from SH3 to 4 and I had no sound, so they have something to do with the sounds, but I don't know what.

I am only a low level modder though. I dealt mostly with sound files and very small graphic changes in SH2 and 3. I don't know how to use photoshop at all, and that is what I have to open DDS files. So if any of you expert modders and photoshop artists could give me some pointers I would really appreciate it.

You need to d/l and install the JSGME: http://www.subsim.com/radioroom/showthread.php?t=123908
Install this utility to the main SH4 root folder. You will see an icon that looks like a "gear" wheel. Double click on this gear, and the utility will create the Mods folder. When you want to install a mod, simply unzip the mod to the newly created Mods folder. Next, create a shortcut of the gear icon to place on your desktop for convienience. Click on the gear to see the available mods. This is the utility interface. Here is where you can activate, deactivate, or uninstall your mods. The beauty of this utility is that it backs up all files for you. If you deactivate a mod, the utility replaces the original files for you. Truly a must have!

is there a way to make it so this mod dynamically switches between langauages depending on what nationality you're playing as. that's the way ubi should've done it anyway..

ATR-42 05-06-08 10:14 PM

not without major code changes i think... for now you need to exit out and let JSGME do the work...

My solution: I have two SH4 1.5 Installs....one has English Speech MOD(s), the other German. Also some other Fleet Boat-specific Mods for the English/American Install.....and Operation Monsun, for example, only for the German version.

In a nutshell, when I sit down to spend some SH4 1.5 Quality Time, I decide before loading whether I want to be American or German. The dual Install doesn't really eat up a great amount of Hard Drive space. Actually, I also have a separate SH4 1.4 Install as well.

New Version, v8 update and modification

Version Eight
June 5 2008

Replaces v7 completely, beefed up to 178 meg.

This version includes all the changes in v7 but adds/adjusts...

- modified the "blow ballast" voice to exclude the nasty hissing sound but still includes the better 'air release sound' effect

- blow ballast voice tone now adjusted to meet the current tone of the active crew members under all conditions.

- reduced over-modulation of 'dive' sound

overall very minor adjustments but just a basic clean up. The blow ballast was really bugging me...

Credits included in read me. Special thanks to Spaxs and all contributors of this community.
