I hear ya AvH. I just tried the Ice Ice Baby (1) mission in GWX with S-boot beta - what a Riot! :rotfl:
Now I just need to stay alive long enough to get a shot off :lol: |
A note on who fought whom: US PT-boats in the Pacific battled Japanese destroyers on several ocassions. The fighting was done at night, and the boats were not much faster than the DDs, especially in any kind of weather. The real advantage is maneuverability - the boat can turn faster and is a very small target. Once he gets out from under the searchlights he is gone, which is a good thing because one 4-inch shell can bring a PT-boat to it's knees. The Schnellboot is bigger, and with a steel frame, but the problem is still there.
In the Channel, most of the fighting was also at night. The Germans ran small convoys from Seebruge to Wilhelmshaven, mostly escorted by flakleiters and S-boats. The British would attack them with Vosper PT-boats, and the F-lighters would defend while the S-boats counter-attacked. Most of the fighting was done with machine guns. These battles took place a lot, and would be the most likely scenario for this kind of command. |
Well, I managed one good hit against the auxiliary cruiser, then ran like a whipped dog. --grins-- I had shells by the bazillion landing all around me!!
Had a Hunt I come after me; outran her! :p :rotfl: Then went back in a second time, and took out a T3 before I got shelled to death! This needs quite a bit of brushing up. But by no means is that meant as criticism! It's just an observation. But what there is of this so far . . . --whistles-- . . . boy howdy!! |

I think you shoud decrease the reloadtime for the torpedos. It needs to much time (under fire) to run a second attack and it would be nice if it would be possible to do some damage with the 3,7cm gun to destroyers etc.

Love the mod!I've dreamed some playable surface ship from the first day with SH3
But... I've been pounded to death many time :( But it's wonderful! I've do a custom created mission near the british coast and jet jumped by 3 liberator.I've been hit only by machine gun fire,and managed to shot all the three bomber down. Aircraft seems easy but i can't even manage to go near a simple armed merchant :( Someone can help me?I need some advice about some tactics. Thanks for a magnificent mod!! (and i'm here hoping for something similar for SH4) :D |
I quickly tried the beta and I loved it! I did the Happy Times mission (same one on previous page). I got shelled to death before I could kill a large tanker. :oops: Stupid cruiser... :damn::lol: I do hope you continue this mod and really develop it. It is pure genius! :rock::up:

I've tryed to attack an enemy convoy during daylight,and got pounded by a pair of flower corvette...not funny,i have to try some night attack...i think it will be hard for both the enemy and me :-?

May I suggest that you include a tweak file for your S-Boot. That way we could adjust the reloading times for the torpedoes, hit points, etc.

Mikhayl, you can adjust the torps loading times using timetraveller's mini tweaker...the loading speeds are is in the .sim or .dat of the boot. Unfortunatelly his site is gone and I don't have a copy of mini tweaker. But it's possible, I' ve done that for the subs.

If anyone is interested, I've a multiplayer game set up for up to six S-boots. It was written using stock SHIII, so I don't know how that'd work in GWX.
You start off docked at St. Nazaire and have to head out to help intercept a quick-strike attack force heading to shell the sub pens. I just played it several times with just myself and it's kinda . . . wow. You sure as heck aren't gonna survive with just a single S-boot. You're going to need several to help 'spread the wealth', as it were, of incoming fire. It also takes about 20 minutes to reach your target, but I don't think anyone's gonna mind if you get six peeps to go out as a group. If anyone's interested I'll upload it. |

As usual, you just need to create a folder with the same name as the file in the \data\MultiMissions\English\ folder, then copy the mission file into that new folder. If anyone is at all interested I'll set up the game in a bit. Look for von_Hesse; the password will be SUBSIM. Just make sure you're set-up is stock/1.4 patched SHIII with only the mods S-Boot BETA 0.1 and S-Boot Generic Camera enabled. (Up and running as of 19:15 Eastern standard time; I'll leave it up for about an hour, unless my XO calls me to dinner sooner! You don't need to download and save the mission to play it, only to host it. But you will need to be running only stock/1.4 patched SHIII with only the mods S-Boot BETA 0.1 and S-Boot Generic Camera enabled in order to join and play) |
