Technically not Grumman. The original Grumman version is F4F. The FM series was license-built by Martin. This is also the difference between the TBF Avenger and the "Grumman" TBM, which was also built by Martin.

That's kind of like how the F4U Corsair was originally built by Chance Vought but there where others built by Goodyear and Brewster.

I bet the Bone drivers might be a bit over confident there being no real threat to them in Afghanistan MANPADS but they fly too high for those when they are dropping JADAMs.

I bet they where on the return trip to Diego Garcia and where zapping the locals on the way home.Bone drivers are known to screw around before heading home as are most military pilots.

Like this UH-60 crew screwing around at 50ft.

The zoom climb is what you refer to?

It did not get bested until the F-15 came along.

An F-4 crew would have said "wait up please".

Rgr that and hence my reference to the year...the Lightning would probably still hold her own against some aircraft today performance-wise.

And here is the proof of Omani low levelness -

The best bit about the F-15 is that it could do that and not need to refuel straight away.

Oops.

The Jaguar seems to be over looked by many especially here in the US.

I see some Hunters on the tarmac.I saw a show about Israeli pilots they said that only the Jordanian Royal Air Force Hunter pilots where true equals back in 1967.In those dog fights it was a matter of who made the mistake first.

RAF Harrier GR7 a cousin of mine flew the USMC version back in the mid 70's up until he retired.

Not sure if this has already been shown but the F22 Raptor doesn't get the accolades it deserves IMHO:

Whilst I was at Coltishall with three squadrons of them it was great, about every six months they'd do a simulated airfield attack - six aircraft very low overhead within seconds, from all angles. :yeah:

A spotter's paradise.
