Down to Halfords for a few spray cans and get the local graffiti guys to pay a visit.

Memories of my first car are starting to come back to me ... very much like my first girl, but that's another story lol

My frist car was a 1949 Chevy convertible that smelled like brake fluid due to that's what made the convertible top go
up and down. Looked like it had been painted with a vacumn cleaner, but hey it was my first one in 1961 that is.

some more pictures :) Did a couple of Greenlanes with a mate last week, much fun was had  all legally and sensibly of course!

First up, a nice mild 'lane up near my mate's house, short enough that we did it about 6 times lol, mainly so I could get a feel for how she performs on rough terrain, also the first time we had the front hubs locked and 4wd on :DL

This pic is from the end, of our second trip over there, unfortunately my phone decided to delete the pics I got the first time round :(

The sign lies!!!! Unsuitable for most motor vehicles :yeah:

We then had a drive out into Derbyshire and over to Fox House. Again, a nice gentle 'lane, nothing too taxing, but great fun for a beginner like me :O:

This pic gives an idea of the terrain, didn't get much rougher than this

I received delivery of a recovery bar today which will hopefully be installed on monday (not having one makes any off roading a little hairy as the stock tow hoops have a habit of snapping right off if you try to use them for recovery lol) also gonna have (another) go at removing the front bumper for clearance. We tried yesterday but after realising I didn't have any suitable tools, and being outwitted by my mate's locked tool cabinet we decided to leave it...

Sorry about the ridiculously huge pics btw, any way to easily resize?

Betonov 05-11-12 12:49 PM

Pffff, I could navigate those roads with my Clio :O:
I'd just have to stop ever 50m to pick something up :DL true story

Keep me informed how she hold's. A Vitara is on my choice for next car list.

haha, funny you should say that, we ran into an Astra halfway through, still no idea how they got it there, or back for that matter...

Will do mate

Betonov 05-11-12 01:11 PM

Whatever was made before 1998 is a tank. Plus parts are so cheap that you're not shy about leaving something behind :DL

Jimbuna 05-11-12 02:53 PM

You seem to be having fun with your new steed...nice one :sunny:

Make sure you get the corrosion under control (and kick the dealer where it hurts for not showing it to you before you bought the car...that boarders fraud!).
In it's current state the vehicle wouldn't make it past technical inspection in Germany. So get those parts replaced before the corrosion reaches vital spots of the car.

i haven't got into details yet but if you bought the car without being aware of the body state it's only your problem. I mean- you could have checked it. Blaming the dealer now is kinda...you know. Dealers are dealers- they want to sell cars- no matter in how crappy condition they are. You could blame him if the fault was sth like sawdust in the engine, that is sth you couldn't have checked in the place where you bought the car. But corrosion...Besides...you were buying an all-terrain vehicle, so it was kinda obvious that the previous owners did not use the car on the Silverstone only. Don't get me wrong- dealers are freaking cheaters but when it comes to corrosion...

Schroeder 05-12-12 06:31 AM

I know where you are coming from but that trader definitely is a cheater. As I said I highly doubt that car would get through the technical acceptance test before getting a permit to drive on German streets. I actually even doubt the car can be saved unless a lot of parts are swapped out. If the dealer was hiding all that then "cheater" is one of the nicer words I would call him.

Btw.
In Germany dealers have to give you a one year warranty on a used car they sell you and you can give it back up to 14 days after purchasing it (IIRC that is...).

Betonov 05-12-12 06:58 AM

What are you talking about. The car is a bit banged (it's a Vitara, it's built to be abused), and then there's that roof holder that was eaten away but apart from that I see no serius corrosion. My car actually has a hole in the door and I pass the technical.

Schroeder 05-12-12 07:07 AM

Because you don't live in Germany.;)
All I said is it wouldn't pass over HERE. At least not to my knowledge which is limited. Obviously it's still good enough for the UK laws.

Oberon 05-12-12 07:12 AM

Wouldn't mind giving that road a bash in one of these:

http://www.landrovercentre.com/image/siia.jpg

Of course, I'd have to stop and fill the tank up again at the end of it (and get a new spine), but still...
