Nice, Nike; now here comes "Adidas" (name formed from Adolf "Adi" and "Das" Dassler, Adolf Dassler, shoe manufacturer from Herzogenaurach/Germany) with its commercial:
adidas Originals - Star Wars™ Intergalactic Cantina 2010 with

David Beckham, Daft Punk, Snoop Dogg, Franz Beckenbauer, Noel Gallagher, Ian Brown, Ciara, Jay Baruchel, DJ Neil Armstrong etc.

Bring on the big trans-Atlantic clash between England and the US of A on Saturday.

I am expecting a very strong performance by the US boys who have an impressive physical fitness. This will be a tough one for the -according to the bookmakers- "heavily favoured" English team.

England : USA
1 : 1

England are always "heavily favoured" by the bookmakers but that is because it helps them keep the odds short for a public who love to back their country.

Just in case the highly unlikely should occur and England were to win the tournament. :haha:

Hmm, personally, after losing against China :har:, I'd say that the sooner the french team goes back to France, the longer I'll laugh.

I can't stand soccer nor our team [racist remark removed]. :DL

England vs. USA - the rematch on Saturday, don't miss it!

“England's blue uniform, which had made its debut in this match (= first-ever meeting in a world cup 1950 USA-England 1:0), was never worn again”

"US-England rematch evokes spirit of 1950 Cup shocker"
by Agence France-Press
http://sport.id.msn.com/world-cup-20...mentid=4113254 :

England own a 7-2 overall record against the United States but dropped their first-ever meeting 1-0 in a World Cup stunner for the ages on June 29, 1950 at Belo Horizonte, Brazil.

Joe Gaetjens, a part-time dishwasher whose mother was from Haiti and father from Belgium, headed in the only goal in the 37th minute in a match that turned the football world upside down but brought little attention on US soil.

Today, US fans call it the "Miracle on Grass", a tie-in with the 1980 US Olympic hockey "Miracle on Ice" shocker over the Soviet Union, and the match inspired the 2005 film "The Game of Their Lives".

Walter Bahr, the 1950 US World Cup captain whose shot Gaetjens deflected for the winning goal, noted that the English still recall the defeat all-too well.

"England wore blue jerseys during their historic loss to the United States in 1950," Bahr said. "To this day, they have never worn a blue color uniform again."

Blue was then replaced by red as England's second-choice uniform.

Our goalie is going to be Mr Target for the whole of England for that howler.
I reckon we'll still rally back in the second half...just...for 2-1 at the end. :yep:

We usually start badly, scraping through the lower halves and then just as we get our pace up we hit the brick walls that are Argentina, Germany or Brazil. :damn:

Aye, he's not gonna live that down. No way Jose... (Who I still believe should be headhunted for England manager)

By the way...does anyone else want to go around the stadium and snap those vuvuzuela. Sounds like the stadium has been invaded by bees... :damn:

papa_smurf 06-12-10 03:08 PM

Ah, I see the lanky one is on (Peter Crouch)
