Hope you complete this as it is much needed as is an abandon ship mod.

Thanks for your interest Bubblehead1980. I totally agree. It's a real game-killer running out of fuel 75 miles from base and having to end the game because there is no way to call for help. :-?

I re-modded everything from memory. Getting ready for first release of 'Rescue Sub' mod.

Some highlights:

- SoS transmission and rendezvous point between Midway and Japan (1 in first release- more later)

- After sending SoS, You have to wait for the rescue sub to arrive at your location before repairs and refueling can commence. This can take up to 7 days.

- several triggers with timers to simulate travel and repair times.

- big Renown hit for sending an SoS message. Automatic court martial for failing to meet up with rescue sub after radioing for help, and for not completing repairs in required time.

- Entire war is covered.

- This is not a cheat mod. No permanent 'floating repair bases'. Repair subs and rendezvous points spawn only after certain conditions are met. Sending an SoS will cost you time and renown.

Here are a few screen shots:

Nifty idea. A few questions.

Does the delay depend on where you are?

Does it work in the Asiatic Fleet?

Hi. I have calculated travel times for the rescue sub to reach the designated area after player calls for help, and have simulated this with delays before making it spawn. I have also simulated repair times on the surface once the rendezvous takes place. No quick fixes. Sending an SoS will result in lost renown. Plus, player will get an automatic court martial if he calls for an SoS and doesn't meet up, or if he doesn't stick around long enough for the repairs and refueling to complete- around 12 hours on the surface only! I don't want anyone to get the idea this mod is a cheat. Believe me, waiting for 5 days in the middle of nowhere for someone to come save you isn't fun!

Also, in the first release, there will be only one SoS rendezvous point (halfway between Japan and Midway). In later releases, I will make several- including Asiatic Fleet areas.

The first release should be out in a day or two. I will post a new thread as soon as it's finished. Will be compatible with RSRDC and TMO.

The risk of court martial was implemented to prevent cheating by forcing the player to remain on the surface at the rendezvous point for a certain amount of time to complete refueling and repairs. A court martial is easily avoidable if the player plays realistically and carries through with the SoS process. :yep:

will it work with TMO1.4+RSRDC v370?

I see your point here. It really should be a last resort; not just "Gee, it would be swell if I could get more fuel for my patrol...".

Doesn't the concept of meeting at a specified location defeat the purpose of a rescue ship? I see how you mean to stop cheaters, but the precautions kind've undermine the original intent.

For example, the other day I was launching an attack on a Task Force led by a Fuso Class battleship and managed to sink it. In the process, a Subchaser snuck up on me and nailed my engine room with a depth charge as I was sneaking away. Luckily, it was fairly shallow and I was able to rest on the bottom as my crew drained the submerged engine room and repaired the pumps. The convoy eventually left, however I was dead in the water without a Propeller shaft or a rudder. Such a situation could easily be re-enacted by a well placed hit to the engine room or fuel tanks, leaving the player stranded and unable to meet up with the requested sub.

In my frame of thought, if you truly need a rescue ship, odds are you aren't able to make a rendezvous point in time, if at all. I understand your desire to keep players from abusing the mod, however the idea of a court-martial punishment and a given re-supply point kind've defeat the purpose. Quite honestly, if the player can reach the spot in between Midway and Japan, wouldn't they be able to reach Midway anyway? Wouldn't it be more realistic and effective to have the rescue ship/sub come to you and only suffer a Court Martial penalty if you leave the area?

The game will not allow you to send a 'rescue ship' to you, you are not in the same place all the time. His idea is basically for someone that needs additional fuel to make it back to base, either because of not keeping track or a 'leak'.

Thank you. Well said. I wish there were a way to make the rescue sub come to the player's exact location, but it's just not possible. This compromise is the next best thing. What us modders would like to do and can do are two different things.

By the way, Rescue Sub v1.0 is out. Please see here: http://www.subsim.com/radioroom/showthread.php?t=193872

I get it.I play on 100 realism most of the time so appreciate the lengths to prevent cheating.
