Ah... I see what you mean. The fogcolor in Hitman's 20 Km environment with clear or light overcast sky is matching the sky color. That gives you the impression that something changed in the fog distance parameters. They have not changed however. I experimented a lot with the fogcolor. My conclusion was that if you match the sky or watercolor the total atmosphere deteriorates as it becomes pretty dule.

Actually, the distance of actually spotting a ship greater than 8-10k wasn't the issue (sorry, I should have mentioned that before). Perhaps it is just a "irksome" thing that I have noticed. All in all...this mod is very well done. The slow water motion, the gradual wave movement, water color variations with cloud cover using 3D waves and the Howling wind mod put together creates a very life like scene. Your attention to detail is paying off I think.

All links to this mod appear to no longer work.:hmmm:

EDIT: Working fine now....just bad timing on my part :(

20km issues

I'm having some difficulties with the 20km version of this mod. The 16km version one works great (so if I can't solve this issue, I can just go back to using that one).

It seems like ships sit really low in the water – it almost looks like they're sinking. This would make sense if they were just coming over the horizon and you could only see the tops of the masts, but even at 5000m, it looks like freighters are running decks awash and sitting really, really low in the water – low enough that I sometimes have to get within 4000m to identify the ship properly.

I haven't used Hitman's 20km environment on its own before, so maybe it's a problem native to that mod and just retained in this one? So far, my crew generally only detects ships closer than 10,000m.

Has anyone else had this same experience? I might go back to the 16km environment for now. I'd really like to use the 20km, though!

Thanks in advance for any help.

The detection distance is indeed native to the original Hitman 20 Km mod. Actually the same distances as the 16 Km mod. The other issue you mention with the ships sitting deeper in the 20 Km mod is also native. It is the earth radius. I can correct that by setting it to the max value. Thereby: the waves are higher and when zoomed in you will notice that as the waves slightly obstruct the view. Actually SH-3 doesnot handle large waves too well and I'm not proud with storm+zoomed in persicope view. I experimented with different wave sizes which give better ship saling behavior compromising wave size against zoomed in periscope view.

Ah, okay. Well, the 16km model still seems to work properly, so I will stick with it! Thanks.

Blacked out faces?

Hi Rik

Great mod! Very impressive seas indeed.

I'm experiencing problems with my lookouts on the conning tower at night however.. At a certain level of (low) light, the crew's faces completely go black!

The uniforms continue to reflect a certain amount of light (even though dull), and so do the hands. I'm finding this very inconsistent, as the hands show colour, but the faces do not..

Any suggestions? Anybody else experiencing this?

P.s. Found SH3 a fortnight ago believe it or not. Have spent the last two weeks downloading mods.. Unbelievable I've missed this release!

I have had the same experience with the darkened faces, but it doesn't bother me. It doesn't happen every night, either... just some.

Must be the full moon...

What is the wheater type? Clear sky, light clouds or overcast? Did you use the Atlantic, Artic or Mediterrenean scene? Was it fully dark?

Strange, huh?

Hi Rik

Thanks for the quick reply. It's clear sky w/ half moon & heavy seas, (Atlantic, about 9pm onwards). The faces and caps are black, (i.e. nothing).

However, the hands/gloves, uniforms and even their necks show atleast a darkened version of their textures. :hmmm:

Hope that information helps mate - I'm not exactly a tech guru.

I see what you mean. I made the faces lighter in a new version I just uploaded but the faces behave differently in different scenes. For example the Watchman in the Atlantic looks fine while the other guys on the bridge have dark faces. In the Mediterranee and Artic in slight overcast that problem doesnot occur. So it's a minor bug in the game.

Should work better in the v0.8 version.

faces

I never really noticed that myself. I haven't any issues with the graphics with the models change in the mod. System settings perhaps?

I didnot notice it either. It's a pretty minor bug as the 'black faces' usually hold there binocles before there faces. But during testing it is noticable. :know:

I hate to be picky! :O:

Great mod all the same Rik. Beautiful water.

Thank you
