Hello all,
I am so happy that I have found this thread. As you may have already figured out, I am new and I have a problem running SHIII on Windows 7. :D My problem is of a wierd nature and does not seem to fit to any situation listed above. I install the game, apply 1.4b (the correct one), use the no cd/dvd fix. Run the game, I see the Intro and than the loading screen pops up and when it finishes to load it just closes the game and a typicall windows like question is being asked whether to report the problem. So far I have tried the following to get rid of this problem: 1) set the application to XP SP3 compatibility - no effect :shifty: 2) tried to uninstall or update the starforce thingy but it says that there are no drivers to remove or to update :shifty: 3) reinstalled the game - no effect :shifty: My windows is x64, I have a mobile Turion dual core 2.20 Ghz, 2Gbs of RAM and an ATI Radeon HD 4570 with 512mbs of memory and the newest drivers. Help me, please, no I beg you! |

Hey,
thanks for the reply but it does not work.:damn: |
Wait - seriously??? The only option I have to get SH3 working in Windows 7 is to BUY THE DAMN GAME AGAIN?
You've GOT to be kidding me. |
I use the D2D version and installed right away, zero issues.
|
I have the DVD version from when it came out - I even preordered it so I was sure my Gamestop got a copy.
GRRRRRRRRrrrrr....... EDIT: I'm going to put in a support ticket and see if they can help. |
Last night I downloaded SH3 from Direct2Drive (supposedly no starforce DRM that way), and it installed and ran under Windows 7 with no problems.
I have an Nvidia GeForce 5500 Graphics card, and it was set at 60Hz. I have not yet installed any mods, nor actually played the game - I got to the main menu and exited. Steve |
This response I got from them is pretty special.

The game runs under Windows 7 with NO PROBLEMS.
I re-bought the game for $10 from Direct2Drive, without StarForce DRM. It installed fine, and GWX3 installed fine on top of that. Worked right "out of the box". Steve |
The thing that gets me is like they didn't even read what I said.
The problem isn't with the game, the problem is with Star Force! It installs fine - Star Force doesn't work in Windows 7, so I can't activate the game. And I'll be damned if I'm going to pay for a game AGAIN so I can continue to use it. EDIT: I just submitted an update to the question. Quote:

Or....you can spend $10 and be done with it. Yeah, it sucks. No, it's not right. But it's easy. Steve |
No, I'm going to persist in this until they find a way to make my game work.
Besides, every time someone does that, go out and buy another, it just proves to them that they can screw us both ways. I'm not giving them another $10 for a game I already own that's broken because of them! |
Checked back and they changed the status of my ticket from, "Updated" to "Solved" without submitting any extra information to fix this issue.
So I added another submission. Quote:
