Do you have the necessary mods enabled? You only get open hatches in the control room with certain mods.

GWX comes with an Open Hatch mod which should already be in your MODS folder and ready to use via JSGME. If you enable it, the hatches should be open and not closed.

DD's Open Hatch and FM New Interiors are also mods that allow for open hatches - the hatches start out closed but they can be opened and reclosed at will using keyboard commands. They do not make this possible for all boat types, however.

Courses for horses. I think someone else said if you popping around the Irish Sea, La Manche area and not to far from the sunny shores of Germany then its the VII.
But for the Rambo like brutality of tearing up a convoy its the IX all the way.

Fast dive times are not as useful in a well planned convoy attack. But the pop gun like versatility of the VII, plus the fact it is THE u-boot, makes it my preferred choice of weapon.
That however is mostly due to my playing style, I prefer sneaking into harbours, hugging coastlines and catching my targets idle, unaware or alone. The sheer terror of firing off a massive blast of ordnance and then swiveling port/starboard as depth charges rain on you for three hours is not my cup of tea. :arrgh!:

I would posit that handled well, a IX is just as good at harbor incursions. I just today took mine into the Irish Sea, sank 2 of what appeared to be Battleships, and continued on to Liverpool. Of course I was surprised to find that there is no Liverpool harbor.... just a big open area of water.
None the less - got in, got out, avoided mines, ASW trawlers, torpedo boats, and destroyers.
Running silent at periscope depth all the way.

But almost 350 tonnes lighter the VII can squeeze into a lot more tight spaces. Mind if there was a midget sub sim, I would probably play that too :haha:

Good luck getting a VII to Penang.

I like both boats. The Typre VII is great for cutting your teeth on, to get used to the Uboats. The Type IX is for those who like to venture out further in the world. Both have their pros and cons. The smaller boat is more manouverable, and dives faster, which is great when Coastal Cammand and the RAF become more than a nuissance, but it doesn't carry the firepower of the Type IX boats.

Just depends on what kind of mood I'm in. I have 2 campaigns going. One in a VII boats, and one in IX boat.

That's the best of both worlds!

I just stalked a convoy for three days trying to finish off a T2 tanker, I wounded in the first attack.
Failed but I did get all escorts 2 J class and one armed trawler, except for one pesky V&W, and a C2 cargo, Im dissapointed and running out of torpedoes did remind me of the value of a bigger sub. Lets hope my fellow wolves had happy hunting.
