Fish40, the answer is yes. I aded the Yankee Modelworks Pressure Hull, and modyfied it to look closer to original. All the ribs have been added, exhausts modyfied, mufflers scratch built, some piping rerouted, 88mm gun base built from scratch, anchor mechanism added along with the anchor chain, i also added stern steering mechanism, bottom part of the pressure hull to be visible through bottom flood holes.
Check this out if you havent done so yet:

Brilliant!

So what do we have on the deck so far? ... primer, then base coat, now the blue-ish coat with the brownish colour in certain places?

I don't know what your plans are for the finished item but you should put a reserve on her and auction @SS ;)

Siara 01-27-09 06:37 PM

Painte all the upper surfaces, and railings black, mixed with grey. Turned out bit darker than expected, so the white filter will be used to tone it down.

I swear by Micro-Sol.

Looking great! Are you planning to weather this boat, or display it pristine?

:know:

I will weather it. It will get filters first, then Abtailung 502 oils, followed by some rust and chips. Not a lot- just to highlight some areas.
Dont forget this is going to be U-552 on 3-rd patrol- 10 march 1941- the day of her forst gun victim.

I have applied the trim decals from AMP.

It is just incredible!

It is easy to forget all the hours you spent on in, specially when you were cutting the flooding holes and after making all the supports. I cannot imagine how much styrene have you eaten and how many hours you were thinking and planning the method to solve some problem...

Same here - it's an indespensable tool for decals. Micro-Scale decals used to be the best too.

Looking good, Siara!

This thread keeps me thrilled since 1 and a quarter years now and there is still more to come!

It is amazing how realistic the surface looks already.

Did you decide to remove the eyelets from the rear dive planes? Could you finally find out their origin?

br
Michael

Siara 01-29-09 03:09 AM

Thanks guys for good words.
Im glad you like the boat.

Gandalf- yes i did remove the eyelets from the stern dive planes, because we all on AMP forum think they were added while U-995 was in Norwegian Navy.
I did copy what i saw on the pictures of U-995- unfortunately it wasnt correct for the early VIIC.
We have to be carefull using U-995 as reference. So many things are "modern".
