good luck.

I just made it to a stable 60 feet periscope depth from 10 knots on the surface in 54 seconds using all back emergency at the same time I press the "P" key.

Balao class surfaced running at 10 knots. Crew at Battle Stations.

1. Crash Dive / Start stopwatch
2. Watch depth gauge in lower right corner. When it starts going down wait until about 29 to 34 feet. Click "All Back Emergency" and press the "P" key.

3. Stop stopwatch when depth is 60 ft.
Why? Just for fun!

I also let the stopwatch run on until I slowed, all back emergency to 4 knots. (2 minutes 17 seconds.) (then make turns for 4 knots.)

The thing is, the performance isn't consistent. Sometimes it takes longer for the crash dive order to initiate, sometimes the boat just seems to dive slower. This is not a criticism of the game or the v80 modders. Simply a casual observation.

Generally, my strategy for a "crash dive, aircraft spotted" is to immediately order the crash dive, when I'm under, I order 100 feet and ahead 1/3. I spend about 15 minutes at 100 feet, come up to periscope depth at 4 knots, take a look around, come up to radar depth, wait about 5 minutes and then surface and stay on time and on track. Until the next time.

If I ever come across a situation that calls for a quick dip to periscope depth, I know I can (possibly) accomplish it in 54 seconds!

Have you read "Clear the Bridge"? There's a story in there, when Tang actually ran aground at the same moment they were firing their forward torpedoes and backing full! The torpedoes "dipped" into the mud before coming up to set depth and blowing up the target. They were lucky it was soft mud.

No, according to my interpretation of what I read about the new release, all that seemed necessary was to unload RC1 and load RC2. Save games seemed to work.

I will do a clean install and try it again. Sigh.

EDIT: The clean install took care of the problem. Another lesson learned.

The best I have done so far, in a Balao class, from the surface at 10 knots. I order the crash dive and start the stop watch at the same instant. When passing 29 to 34 feet, order periscope depth and engines to 1/3. I was at a stable 60 feet in 64 seconds. I was still making 9 knots though. Slowing to 4 knots would take additional time. I suppose one could order all back emergency to slow down instead of ahead 1/3.

I failed to use a comma. It should have read "order crash dive, at 45 feet" I was on the surface, order the dive then during the dive at 45 feet Pressed A.

interesting work you've done here.
and yes, i have read "clear the bridge". that was interesting also. one cannot duplicate those experiences in a game such as this.

i cannot imagine the mix of emotions felt by the captain as he realized that he was about to be torpedoed by his own weapon.

i hate to break up the diving discussion, temporarily, and i thought i would share some interesting photos from the current release.
these were taken while on patrol off the SE coast of Japan.
nice moonlight shot...just prior to sending those ships to davy jones' locker.

What is the matter? You think being hit from four miles away is unrealistic? LOL Even before WW2 the Japanese already had merchant guns at that range. Some even had torpedoes and depth charges which FOTRSU did not give them ... imagine that.

Why are there two player indicator marks and can they be removed altogether from the game?

Tokyo bay:

First port had a DD stuck half way in the dock. Later on it pulled itself out and came after me but only in reverse.

There was a Tone there everything seemed good on the ship but when I looked at the screws I saw this:

https://i.ibb.co/Fmw2sXY/tone.png

I have seen this on a few other classes of ship as well. The Tone had a submarine next to it and its screws were perfect in there texture but some surface ships are coming out checkerboard on the screws.

The net across the shallows is a nice way to keep us from making a short cut but bow on I took no damage from it. When I turned and scrapped it with my starboard side I took damage.

Second port farther up had a dd on land.

I still can not get rid of the HISSING sound upon taking damage. Even when the damage is repaired it just won't go away. Anyone else have this issue?
