Yesterday I played a game single mission and the event viewer and external viewer worked. Today I played Campaign and they do not.
I also noticed at times everything would freeze for up to 60 seconds or so, freeze meaning I could not click on anything. The buttons would not function but I could use keyboard command. Even when I moused over say the compass the larger compass would not rise nor could I affect any change other than keyboard commands. 60 later everything would be fine. It happened three times on one patrol. By the way do not under any circumstances sink a hospital ship. Yes even Japanese ones ... they court martialed me for it. I had some luck and come across two unescorted slow moving convoys. Two Large Tankers, Passenger liner troop carriers and a few others but I sank the Hospital ship that was with one convoy. 42,000+ tonnes and got a Navy Commendation medal :Kaleun_Salute: :Kaleun_Cheers: :k_confused:and a court martial. :k_confused: |
Convoy commands
I noticed in the help file during the game there were commands for convoy controls?? Can someone explain this to me? Was there something about this in the game already that I have forgotten about?

different option sets. the single war patrols and missions use the option set on the main menu. career options are set from the menu you see when you are at your home base. good luck. and good hunting. |

this could be related to either windows background programs hogging systems resources or antivirus doing the same. SH4 is a resource hog to begin with. and it runs under windows with the supervision of your antivirus. my recommendation is to add your SH4 folder to the exclusion list of your antivirus program. also, set your antivirus update to the middle of the night, if it is not set then already. (assuming that you don't play SH4 in the middle of the night). another recommendation is to review your windows system maintenance time frames for things like update-checking, disk defrag, etc. good luck. and good hunting. :salute: |

maybe someone else in the forum and explain them. i suspect that they are a leftover from the SH3 atlantic game (which i have not really played). |
merc4ulfate, do you have the LAA (Large Address Aware) set to "True" on the SH4.exe file? Make sure that the SH4.exe is not write-protected, and check it with LAA by running the applet again. That symptom you describe sounds just like that. FotRSU takes up just about every bit of real estate it can find on your computer. We hope this next version is even more efficient with resources, but it is still a ~lot~ of stuff for the computer to handle.
As mark bonamer points out, there are two sets of options in SH4. The one from the menu, and the other is in the Captain's Office, found by clicking on the AM radio box on the left side of the view from the desk. You'll want to change other options there also... Last but not least, those "convoy controls" are for when you play the Multi-Player missions, where you've got co-operative or adversarial mode. In cooperative, all 8 players allowed on the LAN are in US submarines, and attack the AI "enemy". In adversarial, up to four are subs, and four are in the convoy (???) on the LAN. I've played against one of my sons with the Multi-Player, but it bores him (he's into Black Ops stuff), so I never did get very good at trying to maneuver a convoy, and it is a weird interface anyway. I have no idea how it works if you have 8 people trying it in adversarial. Seemed to me that the convoy person(s) are at a definite disadvantage... :salute: |

Windows 7 Professional 64 bit and the game is in the exclusion list of the anti virus application. I do not have the LAA application on my computer. With Windows 7 64 bit do I even need LAA running? I would like to report something about the deck gun. I started a new campaign choosing the Tambor with it's stern deck gun. I had started with 2000 renown and picked the BOW deck gun before the patrol. The gun was switched out and worked perfectly with no issues or disappearances. I tried the same thing with a Gar and also had no issues switching from stern to bow mounts. |
Merry Christmas Everyone. Is there a way to reduce jap air cover just started in december 1941 in Asiatic Fleet basicly only can move at night.

If you have a 64 bit computer, with 4 gigs of memory (or more) you need to use an app like Large Address Aware for SH4 (or, any game that was designed to use limited amounts of memory, that's considered "average" or even "below average" amounts today). SH4 was designed to only use 2 gigs of memory. Without the help of LAA, this 2 gig maximum is the total amount the game can use. LAA simply "opens" up the game .exe capabilities, to allow it to use the computer assets you may have. Without it, you're not allowing this old game to use the resources your computer may have. Here's the web site that explains just what Large Address Aware does. |
How can I re-enable the cones and circles of vision and hearing on the tactical map with this mod?
Thank you and a Merry Christmas to you all! |

Also found it here http://www.subsim.com/radioroom/down...o=file&id=3634 But there is no save button like in the photo. No step 2 or step three for that matter |

Use the correct LAA that goes with your Windows 7, 64 bit, NetFramework version. If you don't know which version you have? Follow my instructions that propbeanie gave you regarding the "Windows10; Large Address Aware; SH4 Install"...….It tells you how to find which NetFramework version that's on your computer. AND, it tells you why you need to be aware of which DirectX version your computer uses, plus how to make sure you're computer is accessing the older files of DirectX (which are not included on the latest versions of DirectX...... like DirectX 10 or 12). Most people don't realize that in order to use a game that was made for a Windows XP computer, the later OS versions (with their upgrades of NetFramework or DirectX) DO NOT make these functions backward compatible! |
