Amazing action!

Playing FOTRSUv71. January 1944 patrol out of Brisbane. Balao Class Sub.
I just intercepted and encountered a reported convoy in the Bismarck Sea. I am making a submerged approach during daylight hours and I witness the convoy getting sunk by US Air attack! They sunk 3 merchants. They left me with a Chitose Seaplane Tender sitting dead in the water. Closing range for a long range zero gyro MK 14 Torpedo attack. All the escorts are just sitting there, milling around the last damaged merchant that hasn't yet sunk.
Wonderful action!
Looking forward to the next update for FOTRSU.

:yeah: Glad you like that. Ya better close fast though, else the 2nd wave will beat you to the punch, and only leave you with the escorts... and lest you forget, that seaplane tender can spawn planes "off-stage", so keep your eyes open... :O: btw, a lot of that kind of action is courtesy CapnScurvy and ideas from his Day of Infamy vault. :salute:

Speaking of "Day of Infamy"...……. todays December 7!!

A fitting day for this pictorial tribute!

My mod was going to have this video I made, a movie "intro" leading to the start of the game. For those that have never heard FDR's short speech to the joint session of congress, here it is in its entirety:

Continuous CTD after Bismarck Sea Battle

So, I was in the middle of the Bismarck Sea battle, Jan 1944, and the air attack has taken out most of the surface ships. I'm closing on a surviving aviator and I'm detected by escorts. I go deep and get depth charged but the air attack continues above me driving the escorts away and I'm escaping. My intention is to surface and return for the aviator after the escorts get sunk or depart.
Everything is going well and then, CTD.
I restart the computer and then load my save game, start playing and almost immediately, CTD.
I then make sure all my video drivers are up to date, etc. tried again and still almost immediately, CTD.
Whatever happened in the original CTD seems to have made the FOTRSU7.1 into mod soup so I may have to do a clean install using CMS and try again.
I'm reporting this as a heads up. I'm not sure what caused the original CTD but I was mouse clicking when it happened.
I'll report back again after I test some other save games before I start over with a fresh install of FOTRSU7.1

[EDIT 1]
Previous save. Played for quite some time, then, mouse click on All Crew To Battle Stations CTD.
It could've been any mouse click that caused CTD.
I'm going to reinstall FOTRSU from a clean install and try again from new career.
This is still very much fun. I'm sure that over time, we'll get the CTD issue behind us.

v71 does have a couple of issues that have been addressed in the next version that is currently in the cauldron, on the fire, and about to be turned down to a simmer... In the meantime Front Runner, I would like to get your Save folder if possible, to give it a good looking over, please. :salute:

OK. Where do I send it? Do you want the entire Folder which is under Documents, the "data" folder, or only the 2 save folders?

propbeanie 12-07-18 03:38 PM

Usually, the whole thing under the "cfg" under "data" in your My Documents Save folder, whatever you named it. I'm trying to figure out how to open one of my accounts to "authorized" uploads, but this fancy stuff is beyond me... :har: - maybe I'll have the 18 y.o. come over and show me how. I can do it the other way, where I upload a file to one of my accounts and share that link, but I am at a loss this way... "Please Stand-By..." beeeeeeeeeeeeep :88) :salute:

Oh! I amlost gorfot to ask you!: How big of a file is it? thanks. :salute:

Edit: Out of the kindness of his heart, s7rikeback felt sorry for this old (to him) man, and got us set-up with a link: Front Runner's Link. I think you'll have to create a Google account & sign-in to use it. This link will self-destruct in five minutes after you upload... Just let us know when you have it up there please! Thanks :salute:

I tried uploading the folder directly. That failed to upload properly.
I then zipped the cfg folder and uploaded that. It looks like it uploaded OK.
Please check and let me know if you got it OK.

Thanks.

propbeanie 12-08-18 09:51 AM

Thank you very much. It is there, and it is the uncompressed version, so it's just a rather large file is the reason it didn't look like it "took". It's taking Google a while to download it to me. :O: :salute:

I got the file fine Front Runner, and I do thank you. From what I can tell in the plain text files:
Departed January the 3rd, 1944 1300 hours from outside Brisbane, in the Balao, bound for a "Sink" mission in the Bismarck Sea, with the "Sink Bismark Sea 02.mis" file, where you are supposed to sink 4000 tons of any kind of enemy shipping. ID=157. Looks like the last incoming report to you was for a Friendly Task Force @ 0112 hours January 10th, 1944?? You were at 140 foot depth at 1605, same day, the 10th. "Surface the boat!" @ 1959 on the 10th. "Enemy Large Group" contact report sent on 11th January, 1944 @ 2242. Your boat was at 100 ft @ 1419 on the 12th.
... and that's it. The info stops after your being at 100 ft on the 12th. Does that sound about right? There are other folders there, and the most recent files look to be in the 0000000f folder. Unfortunately, when I look at the zipped file (57 folders, 1161 files, 73.5MB), all the dates are set to the date of the archive build, which is December 8th, 2018, ruining the original time stamps, but that's the nature of the beast here. :salute:

There are about 22 missing files that failed to upload on the first try.
Oh, well. I can try again.

propbeanie 12-08-18 10:48 PM

Naw. We're good. Until someone lets us in on the rep file format so we can at least look at it, I don't think we'll figure out the middle of the patrol CTDs, unless we find something in a mis file, and even then, it's not 100%. Your Save info looks fine, so I'll guess a bad ship call in the mis. I'll look closer at the mis files. :salute:
