Actually I had to go back and do an edit because I'm no longer 100% sure the guy in the first "Red Leader" pic I posted was actually Red Leader, altho he does look like the same guy to me and I'm pretty sure he was leader of one of the rebel fighter squadrons.

Nevertheless the helmet does not match the one that the leader of Red Squadron at that time is carrying in his official bio pic at Wookieepedia. I'm pretty sure he dies at the Battle of Yavin so I don't think he appeared in later battles using a different helmet. He could be carrying a different helmet in the interior scenes on the planet than what he wore in the cockpit during combat so I'm not sure. Nevertheless I went with the official picture.

I will no doubt have to pop in the DVD to satisfy myself on this issue.

BUT SERIOUSLY mistaking Porkins for the leader of any rebel squadron? IT IS TO LAUGH.

Mystery solved! It took some digging but the first pic, as quoted by HB, is in fact Theron Nett. He was callsign Red Ten in the Battle of Yavin.

I don't know why he keeps coming up as "Red Leader" on Google image searches, but I fear this does not bode well for the future of our civilization.
