I am reasonably sure there is a way to edit the assignment, and I know I've got advice that I think aanker pointed me at years ago about working in the Save folder, but I can't find it yet... :salute:

altering the assignment is not difficult if the skipper can use Notepad to edit a UPC/MIS file.
@jldjs - how proficient are you with editing files with Notepad?:hmmm:

propbeanie 11-03-18 02:00 PM

mark bonamer, does it involve finding the last Save date and folder, and altering the the "Honshu" and "ID=58" as in the partial example below?...

CareerTrack.upc in Save / cfg / SaveGames / 00000 (most recent date)
-----------------------
PlayerCurrentObjectiveCode=Honshu
PlayerDefaultObjectives=ID94
PlayerCurrentObjectives=ID58
PatrolStartDateTime=1941-12-09 14:00:00

which would be found by searching in the Data / UPCData / UPCCampaignData / PatrolObjectives.cfg file?

In other words, his would most likely be

PlayerCurrentObjectiveCode=East China Sea
PlayerDefaultObjectives=ID94
PlayerCurrentObjectives=ID181 --> ID18 change the "181" to "18"
PatrolStartDateTime=1944-07-24 14:00:00

That would then give a Patrol East China Sea 06 mission - or (horrors) it's in more than one location, besides the "Initial" file?... :salute:

yes, more or less. doesn't the career mission objective have to be one from the Flotillas.UPC file listed under your base and unit type?

I'm sure jldjs would know what he's doing in that regard, mark bonamer, as would torpedobait who had it the last time... Do they have to dig deeper, more files, more settings?... thanks. :salute:

I had hoped that you would finally test my mod compilation.

FortsU is still in the beta phase and will govern the SH4 world in the Pacific in the future and deliver the specifications.

I'm waiting for a version 1.0 of FortsU myself, so I can build a "realism mod" for it.

I also believe that my ModCombo has the better graphics.

I apologize for this post to the developers such as CapnScurvy and propbeanie.
You are doing a great job.

:Kaleun_Salute:

my apologies, duckman.
i am involved in home project and i am still trying to complete my first career using TMO+RSRD.
the fourth quarter of the year is uber-busy for my work group. the pressure to make our yearly objectives is really ratcheted up.

so...work + home project + TMO+RSRD = no time for Ralles.

IF (big if) i get some time, are there any particular subtypes/bases/subrons/theatres of operation that you want me to test right away?

Front Runner 11-04-18 05:30 AM

CTD from Recognition Manual Report

I have a repeatable CTD. Career. Balao Class out of Brisbane Jan 1944. Recognition Manual in Bridge TBT. Red Cross ship < > causes CTD.
I am using .71 LAA etc. Clean install. Windows X updated.

propbeanie 11-04-18 07:59 AM

Thanks Front Runner. CapnScurvy found and corrected that one for the next release. I'm going to hazard a guess that you attempted to look at it while opening the "Red Cross" section, and not the "Merchants" section, correct? :salute:

What I had to do was undo the transfer back to Perth-Fremantle from Pearl or Midway (I forget which). The problem I had was that there were no more missions assigned to my Balao out of Fremantle.

The solution for me was not to mess with the missions. I simply loaded a save taken in the Office before the transfer request, and stayed where I was. It let me continue the career in normal routine.

I tried to follow your attached procedure but it did not fix the crash. Perhaps I interpreted it incorrectly. First, since I play the Pacific campaign I changed this; locate sh4\data\UPCDataGE\UPCCampaignData\Flotillas.upc. to this
locate sh4\data\UPCData\UPCCampaignData\Flotillas.upc. OK?
I wasn't sure if I was to search for " SubSquad and base" so I searched for Midway as base and SubSquad(?) as Balao. Ok? I chose and ObjectiveCode of East China Sea.
Now the mission (saved) that crashed had a PlayerCurrentObjectives as ID9 in the Luzon Strait. The PatrolObjectives I chose from East China Sea is ID17, Sink ships in East China Sea. So I used the Saved file that crashed in the Saved Games folder, opened CareerTrack.upc, and changed the line PlayerCurrentObjectives=ID9 to ID17. But, the lines PlayerCurrentObjectiveCode =Luzon Strait, PlayerDefaultobjectives=ID94
didn't match IDs for East China Sea, so I changed those as well to match East China Sea and an ID99. Ok
So I restarted SHIV, loaded the saved play that I "changed" and it crashed again?
Suggestions?

propbeanie 11-04-18 03:26 PM

jldjs, you changed the "default" values also, it sounds like, but I don't think that matters. The Save you are trying to use has that crash in it. Do you have one from before that?

@ torpedobait, besides changing Midway in 1944, we also added more missions to the Balao at Fremantle (as well as the other boats & locations). My understanding as to the way it's supposed to work is that the "Codes"', such as Honshu or Marshalls are supposed to be able to repeat, and just pull another mission out of the 'pool' of missions with that code, but as we're apparently seeing, the "Codes" seemingly aren't repeating. Maybe we'll work on that also, and add more Codes to call...

Yes. I have a save from entering the base from the last completed mission, as well as a few more form before that one.

you did what you set out to do which was to change your next mission.
the root cause is clearly something different than the next mission assignment however i do not know what it could be.:06:

do not feel badly about this. i am working a test of a megamod and i was in the middle of a patrol, saved my place (dinner time), restarted SH4, reloaded my save and CTD. reloaded the save prior and everything is hunky dory. chew on that one a while. :timeout:

i was playing a different mega last year and every time my sub was upgraded...bang...CTD. so i ended up starting a new career whenever my sub changed. yeah, it's a PITA but what are you going to do, eh?
good luck with it.
