Bosje,

Using this method, your emblem would be the "Snorting Bull". U75 displayed this as their emblem.

Oblt. Engelbert Endrass [the IWO of U-47] painted the emblem on the way back from Scapa Flow in October, 1939. The image chosen was based on one seen in a comic book the crew had on board the U-boat.

The emblem was adopted by the 7th Flotilla in St. Nazaire and was seen on many boats. It was complicated enough that a template was used to apply it to the boats.

More information on The Snorting Bull emblem is available at http://www.u47.org/english/u47_sno.asp . The site also has a section on the Laughing Cow of Lorient.

It is not historical. U69 did have a laughing cow emblem, but mine is a 1950s laughing cow.

I can't remember who it was that tidyed up my messt *.gif for me.

This one is from the Swedish Air Force. The gif http://i166.photobucket.com/albums/u...skolanmini.gif is rather low quality and could do with some tidying up, but it looks alright on my boat.

I use either a correct GWX emblem (like I did for U-46) or flotilla emblem if there's no matching emblem. Also, when I'm good enough (say, first Iron Cross?) I'll put some other emblem on, for example my current boat uses a Schwarzes Drakkar, as there's no emblem for U-108 in GWX.
How did the whole emblem issue looked in real life? What conditions had to be met to be awarded (assigned?) an emblem? Who approved the design, colors? Also, some of them seem to be rather lively colored, how did this relate to low-vis requirements?

It's my understanding that there weren't any preconditions & that the choice of emblem was up to the individual commander. For example a number of boats wore the Olympic rings as their captains graduated as part of Crew 36. Another example would be U-505. At one point in time the boat's emblem was a lion swinging a battleaxe. Her first commander's name was Loewe (Lion in English).

Before the war U-boats wore large painted numbers on their bridge superstructures. When war broke out these numbers were removed & the boats were not supposed to display any kind of emblem/insignia at all. This regulation was widely disregarded & according to my information, never enforced.

Check the Subsim download page. I think that Evil Jester76's historical emblem pack is still available. It definately has U-108's emblem & you can use it to add a few other emblems that weren't included in GWX (ie. U-65, U-68, etc.)
