Budget 2018: Extra £420m to tackle potholes

Local councils in England are to get an extra £420m to tackle a growing number of potholes.
https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/business-46007351

Wast of money and why? Councils have a habit using cheap nasty materials that only last for six months if you are lucky. My council uses rubbish and the pot holes return anywhere from a a month to three months.

Don't bother jim, wait a few days for the numbers to be crunched and the truth to come out.

Jimbuna 10-29-18 12:59 PM

Fell asleep near the end so unless he gave something away after that point the budget was of absolutely no use to me and the bride.

I was hoping for an increase in the personal savings interest allowance.

Jimbuna 10-29-18 01:36 PM

^ Just checked and unsurprisingly ABSOLUTELY NOTHING in it for me or the bride.

Jimbuna 10-30-18 07:40 AM

Now for the expected post budget war of words.

Philip Hammond has said there will be no "real terms" increase in public spending apart from on the NHS.

The chancellor used his Budget on Monday to say that austerity was coming to an end.

But Labour's shadow chancellor John McDonnell rejected his claims, saying more welfare cuts were coming and spending was still being squeezed.

Mr Hammond chose to spend a windfall from better tax receipts on the NHS, universal credit and income tax cuts.

Philip Hammond is to undercut payday lenders with no-interest loans for three million poor borrowers.

The Chancellor unveiled his plans in his Budget on Monday to pair up with banks and debt charities to run the scheme.

They will get £2million of Whitehall cash to help them design no cost repayment plans to defeat the loan sharks.

The Bank of England has indicated there could be a faster pace of interest rate increases if the UK manages a smooth exit from the European Union.

Although the Bank kept rates unchanged at 0.75% this month, its latest forecasts suggest that rates could rise to 1.5% over the next three years.
