At least Moffat has finally explained the Deus Ex that made Missy survive (but still has yet to explain how she got back from Gallifrey) and, of course she and Clara survived, that really wasn't a shock at all.
That being said, there was some good one liners from Missy, in particular when she shoved Clara down the hole into the sewers. That being said, I still feel that she's being played too much as a clown, too much like Didi from Dexters Lab, bouncing Dalek laser beams off her arse while taunting Clara in the Dalek.
The real highlight of the episode though was the scenes between the Doctor and Davros, I think Capaldi is still trying to find his ground as the Doctor, but Julian Bleach is fantastic as Davros and it was such a shame that the whole scene was ruined by Davros's inevitable attack on the Doctor at the end of it. I mean, I know it's in character, but it was predictable. Throughout the whole scene you're just waiting for him to do something evil and so it comes as no surprise when he does, it undermines the entire scene...would have had more impact had Colony Sarff done the betraying instead, with Davros angry that he did it and so he exterminates Sarff and attempts to apologise to the Doctor who, of course, believes that this was Davros's plan all along.
Still, this is Moffat, I guess I shouldn't expect miracles.
So, naturally...like in many recent Doctor Who episodes, you get so far into the episode and it's time to quickly end it, I can almost invision the Doctor pulling a Jammy Dodger out of his pocket and going "Right, that's enough exposition for this episode, we've run out of time...time to wrap things up!" And then everything explodes and he runs into the sunset with Clara and the TARDIS.
I also find the whole 'Hybrid' thing another attempt by Moffat to shoe-horn something into the series that wasn't already there. You'd have thought something as big as a Timelord/Dalek Hybrid would have been mentioned by the Timelords or Daleks before now, especially if it was the reason he fled Gallifrey all those years ago, before the beginning of the original series of Doctor Who. That being said, Clara inside a Dalek did hark back to Asylum of the Daleks and I wouldn't be at all surprised if Moffat does try to bring it full circle at some point, probably around when Clara leaves by perhaps implanting her consciousness into a Dalek or something, which then in turn winds up on the asylum. It's a messy thing because Moffat has no real idea of continuity, but it strikes me as something he might do. He does try to do the whole overarching plotline thing but he's not as good at it as Davies was, although admittedly Davies used to be rather clumsy with it, hitting us over the head with the 'word' de jure every episode (Bad Wolf, Torchwood, etc).
So, it had potential this episode, and there were definitely some good parts, but again it was let down by the traditional rushed ending and bad writing.

:sign_yeah:

Funny thing is, Moffat was always labeled a continuity porn/freak.
I never quite like the Genesis of the Daleks idea, I more a original Daleks story fan!

Still expecting Capaldi go to a more serious Doctor, a la 3rd, but...
Sonic goggles :88), really?

It ruined it for me in the end

How he got the TARDIS back. Just atom per atom of them floating around while the whole thing contains a dying star ???
They could at least just have the daleks trying to destroy it during the whole episode, not build it back atom by atom. That's lazy writing

The TARDIS have self-defence "equipment", from the traditional shields, to de-materialization staying in the same place/time or not (once the Doctor removed a circuit and make it invisible - cue to old series fans). The trouble here was how was written, as you said.

Once Dr. Who was fun to watched because it threw mud in the face of physics and believability and still remained fun to watch. I'm a fan of Star trek technobabel and I'll happily go along with Dr Who.

But most of the time the unbelivable technology was a big part of the plot. Now it just seems as a quick wrap up mechanism.

How do we get out of this trap, no screwdriver, no tardis, daleks all around, my god this would make for an entertaining escape. Oh look, the tardis parts are flating around, lets rebuild it, zing, end of story

Right its now sunk in and my view of this episode is this..

Dull start, drawn out Middle section not bad until it fell apart and less said about the ending the better.

The story lines are still poor, ok its only just getting started but I fear we are in for another season of this.

I also am not a big fan of the "Ex Machina" fixes. It just seems like someone read over the script for continuity, noticed a problem and the writers were just, "Uh... Solved!"

Personally, I don't really feel like meeting Davros as a child was at all necessary to the plot. I seems like it was just there to add suspense, but it doesn't do much else at all for me. Even the bit about why the Dalek was able to say 'Mercy' could have been worked into the Dalek/Time Lord hybrid or gotten rid of altogether in my opinion.

On that note, I'm not entirely for Clara not being able to say anything 'individual' while in the Dalek, either. On the asylum, the ClaraDalek had no issues communicating with the doctor, so it seems like a concept brought in just for this episode.

I get that they maybe need to add new features to the enemies to keep the show interesting, but it would be a much better solution and make more sense to create new enemies outright.

In response to this week, I just went back and watched Remembrance of the Daleks with the 7th doctor. One of my favorites from the classic series :)

Ever since I have discovered the classic series, I have become very aware of the lack of critical thinking evident in the "New Who". Yes, the classical series did have its faults and cheesiness and Deux Ex Machina from time to time (pushing Daleks into a chasm, anyone?), but for the vast majority of it, the Doctor and his companions had to think about the situation they found themselves in and use what they had at their disposal to triumph. For me, the best examples of this can be found in The Celestial Toymaker and The Mind Robber (still only on Season 6 unfortunately).

As for the most recent outing, I very much like the new Master. In some ways he is very reminiscent of Roger Delgado (the only True Master), very respectful towards his enemies, highly intelligent and wearing his goal of domination like a badge of honour, albeit with a more insane streak. Far, far better than what we had before. As for Capaldi, he is great actor, but I fear that by now, the fandom has turned Modern Who into a power fantasy, so Capaldi's scripts do not give him the capacity to show of his true acting chops.

I finally saw the first two episodes, and yet again I am made aware of my own distorted way of seeing the world. I don't know what variant versions I saw that others didn't, but I quite liked them, and I'm looking forward to the next.

Speaking of Doctor Who, apparently it's dropping another offspring onto our airwaves. Think it'll be more Sarah Jane Adventures than Torchwood:

BBC Three today announces Class - a new 8 x 45 minute Doctor Who spin off from the acclaimed YA author, Patrick Ness. Class is a YA series set in contemporary London. Incredible dangers are breaking through the walls of time and space, and with darkness coming, London is unprotected. With all the action, heart and adrenalin of the best YA fiction (Buffy the Vampire Slayer, The Hunger Games), this is Coal Hill School and Doctor Who like you’ve never seen them before.
Hang on hang on this has been done..
