The grassroots group Momentum - set up to support Jeremy Corbyn's leadership of the Labour party - looks set to begin a consultation of its members on its Brexit stance, ahead of the party's conference in Liverpool next month.

This could prove 'interesting' :hmmm:

A newspaper has published details of one of the complaints of sexual harassment made against Alex Salmond.

The Daily Record claims to have seen the wording of an allegation by a Scottish government staff member.

She alleges the former first minister touched her bottom and breasts through her clothing while she was alone with him at Bute House, the paper reports.

Mr Salmond strenuously denies the claims and insists he has never sexually harassed anyone.

Could this slippery fish have been finally caught out of the water? :hmmm:

Momentum is slowly taking control, question is will they have more power than the days of the unions controlling labour?

Jimbuna 08-26-18 09:09 AM

I very much doubt it because they will never be able to match the numbers of people with that of trade union membership.

The Liberal Democrat's Sir Vince Cable is to announce a shake-up of the party's rules, in a move that could see someone who is not an MP become leader.

What is this fruitcake on? Lets say the LibDems win the next general election are they going to tell the voters your next PM is unelected?

Yes i know the chance is good as zero but lets just say this did happen. I for one would be saying no you don't.

Jimbuna 08-27-18 06:51 AM

A party leader is not an automatic MP or vice versa.

Nigel Farage is an earlier example.

The People's Vote campaign, which wants a new referendum on Brexit, is attempting to change Labour Party policy, according to a leaked memo.

It wants MPs and activists to submit a motion at the Labour conference next month, committing the party to backing a new referendum on the final deal.

Jimbuna 08-27-18 07:55 AM

Nicola Sturgeon has said there is "no legal basis" to suspend Alex Salmond from the SNP amid allegations of sexual harassment.

Can't say I'm surprised by her statement.

Electric shock collars for cats and dogs will be banned in England, the government has announced.
The training devices deliver up to 6,000 volts of electricity or spray noxious chemicals to control animals' behaviour.
Environment secretary Michael Gove said this causes unacceptable "harm and suffering".
https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-england-45320038

And about bloody time, bloody barbaric thing should never had been allowed in the first place.

Jimbuna 08-28-18 04:10 AM

Agree with the ban but I'd be thinking about using them on human offenders (insert type of crime here).

A former chief rabbi says Jeremy Corbyn's comments about British Zionists are the "most offensive statement" by a politician since Enoch Powell's "Rivers of Blood" speech.

In an interview with the New Statesman, Lord Sacks accused the Labour leader of being an "anti-Semite".

A video from 2013 of Mr Corbyn accusing British Zionists of having "no sense of English irony" emerged last week.

A Labour Party spokesman called Lord Sacks's comment "absurd and offensive".
https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-politics-45333268

On the contrary, I would say it is Corbyns comments that are "absurd and offensive".

STEED 08-28-18 06:39 PM

There was a time MP's would step down knowing their career was over for making offensive comments. Clearly those days are over, this has been dragging on for months and still Jezzer sits on the Labour throne.

Scallop war: French and British boats clash in Channel

French and British fishermen have clashed in the English Channel in an escalating battle over scallops.

About 40 French boats tried to stop five larger British boats from fishing 12 nautical miles (22km) off the Normandy coast, in the Bay of Seine.

Send in the RN. :03:

Oh forget that we have no real Navy any more, most ships are in port needing repairs and upgrades. Surrender to the French is the only option unless PM May comes up with a great idea.
