Boris Johnson has been defended by comedian Rowan Atkinson following his recent comments about burkas.

The actor, best known for playing Mr Bean and Blackadder, described the remarks as funny.

The former foreign secretary has also won the support of ex-cabinet minister Andrew Mitchell, who called the comments "colourful" but not against the law.

Probably been promised the deputy PM's job by his mate Boris.

I can not see any challenge to May before the election on the grounds no one wants to take the can for the brexit mess. Boris has a dreadful attention span which makes him unfit to become leader. OK the Tory party members may appoint him leader but I can not see the country trusting him as PM on his own. Like JC I would say both would have to form a coalition with another party.

Punishing Boris Johnson risks 'open warfare' - Conservative MP

There will be "open warfare" in the Conservative Party if Boris Johnson is severely disciplined over his burka comments, an MP has said.

Tory MP Andrew Bridgen, a supporter of Mr Johnson, issued the warning in the event the former foreign secretary is suspended in such a way that he cannot not take part in a future leadership contest.

But Mr Bridgen told the Sunday Express: "If Boris is suspended it will be open warfare in the Conservative Party.

"If Theresa May dares engineer a leadership contest while Boris is suspended it will be World War Three."

Gordon Brown: Jeremy Corbyn has got to change

Gordon Brown has said Jeremy Corbyn “has got to change” to address concerns over anti-Semitism in the Labour party.
The former prime minister said the issue was a “running sore” that had to be dealt with immediately because it was “simply wrong”.

Brexit could have 'hugely damaging' effect on football clubs, say chairmen

Burnley chairman Mike Garlick says uncertainty over a deal with the European Union is already making it harder for clubs to sign players.
Stoke chairman Peter Coates added that the Premier League could be hit by freedom-of-movement restrictions.
"The destructive Brexit path being pursued by the government threatens to have a hugely damaging effect on clubs across the country," said Garlick.
"It threatens to make the widening inequality gap in our top division even worse.

Jeremy Hunt has clarified his comments about a no-deal Brexit, saying Britain "would survive and prosper" - but it would be a "big mistake for Europe".

On Thursday he told ITV News a "messy" no-deal Brexit "would be a mistake we would regret for generations".

But he later tweeted that his words "should not be misrepresented" and the UK would only "sign up to a deal that respects the referendum result".

Brexit: Nigel Farage to go 'on the road' with Leave group

Nigel Farage has said he is going "back on the road" to campaign against the prime minister's Brexit plan.

In the Daily Telegraph, the UKIP MEP said Theresa May's Chequers agreement was a "sell-out" as it included regulatory alignment with the EU.

He wrote he would join pro-Brexit group Leave Means Leave at UK public events.

To late face facts remain won end of, all the polls now show a swing back to remain if the whole thing was run again they would clearly win the vote. The whole thing was designed to suggest we are leaving when clearly we are not. I would have not bothered voting in that fix if I knew back then the whole thing was a con job.
