All Quiet on the Western Front?

Any news on this game?

dcb 09-15-06 12:00 PM

Things are heating up. Amazon.com will sell it starting 27 September:
http://www.amazon.de/gp/product/3898...SIN=389874566X
and there's new info on marinesims.de:
http://www.marinesims.de/site/1914--...des-zorns.html
It's in German, but I could make out that it will have 50 missions - sorry, but guess no dynamic campaign. I think it will be something in the style of SH2, heavily scripted.

Roads88 09-16-06 10:24 PM

Did you notice the Amazon.de web sit that its for " windows 2000/ ME"

Didn't see anything about XP.

An error I hope

CB.. 09-17-06 06:13 AM

lets hope that the scripting of the missions owes more to Shakespeare than some teenagers abbreviated text message.....

fingers crossed that it might be a playable and interesting game..the only thing that will prevent me from buying it will be the inclusion of some dumb overly paranoic copy-right protection sytem..

Drebbel 09-20-06 07:15 AM

The title on the new game has changed. It is now:

1914 - Shells of Fury
Die Schalen des Zorns

The press release does mention that the box cover art will probably change before it is released.

CB.. 09-21-06 07:43 AM

nice shot ..looks ok to me..hope they keep it and also hope that the aircraft are as well done as the art suggests! half the fascination with this era will be the aircraft of both sides including the british blimps airships and dirigibles used to patrol and protect shipping..the variety and sheer inventivness of the designs will be one of the high-lights for me if they give it enough attention..don't know they are going to handle the AI for the destroyers tho...i hope they find a decent answer to the usual problems..all or nothing stuff..that seems to be the accepted norm..especaily given the lack of sonar..that should make life unpredictable..on paper...

Just received an email from Rondomedia informing me that the sim will be released in a few days and that they also put the game website online:

http://www.shells-of-fury.de/

The website has 2 trailers, of which one is new to me.

One can also buy the game online (via Amazon) for 30 Euros. According to the designers the game is for the XP platform. So the text on the Amazon website (2000 and ME) is not correct.

I think this low budget game will be lots of fun !

Sixpack 09-22-06 01:54 PM

After watching the 2 trailers, I suppose the main concern and question is:

Is it gonna be moddable ? :hmm: ;)

Drebbel 09-23-06 12:22 AM

I persomaly hope it will not ve modable. IMHO the EGOs of modders are waaaaay to big. They are painting the walls of a house, standing back and saying "look what I built" :D

Why not first enjoy the game for what is is instead of wanting to mod it before it even has been released ?

Myxale 09-23-06 03:56 AM

Well see how this game turns out! I think it'll be rther humble!:hmm:

Of course it will be humble, it is a budget game. But that does not mean it will not be lots of fun !

horsa 09-23-06 05:28 AM

Anything that attempts a novel twist or a new era has got to be welcomed, no matter how constrained by budget. So many of the AAA games these days have to take the "safe" route because so much investment is at stake.

CCIP 09-23-06 12:36 PM

An original effort to be sure.

The graphics are spotty by modern standards, but I certainly would be willing to work with them - everything in this one will be determined by gameplay.

Any possibility of a North American release?

I agree :yep:

By the looks of the air attack (among other stuff) in the trailer I fear arcade tho'. But I hope the final version will prove me wrong.

In any case, a nic(h)e addition to the subsim genre. And if not for me, I am sure there are folks out there who will a blast with it (lots of blasts that is ;) ).

supposedtobeworking 09-23-06 08:32 PM

This is looking pretty neat...you never know, this could turn out to be a little gem of a game..I've certainly discovered gems over the years which are underbudget games made by smaller companies, and in some ways this may contribute to their character and fun factor...can't wait to check this one out.

Yes, but when has a mod hurt the game? If you don't like one, then don't use one! Egos aside... I went all the way from stock SHIII to being a tester for the latest versions of various mods, and I've never been tempted to go back.

Anyway, I wonder if it will be sold by downloads at least, if I can't have it here in North America...
