Hello there,

although I don't have SH5, I'll take this chance to introduce myself, because I've never done that since my first visit at subsim in 2008. Sorry for that.

My name is Henning, 44 years old, from germany. Working as research assistant at a university in germany.

Interests/hobbies: of course sub simulations. started with CAOTD, then SH1, then bought SH3 in 2008. Found GWX and NYGM here at subsim. Great mods. Until now I've never played a career, because always when I started to play, I found things which could be changed. So I tested hundreds of mods and made some mods by my own. That took so much of my free time, so that until now there was no time left for playing.

Other interests: Triathlon, chess, electronics.

I enjoy this forum very much, because the people here are friendly and very helpful.

Greetings,
Henning

I,ve been with the subsim forums quite some time now but i was allready active when sh-2 was being developed . But after that i lost my nickname and stuff and rejoined subsim when i found out they were starting sh-3. It took me some time to buy sh-4 . I was awoken so suddenly again when i found out there was a gonna be a sh-5 and the development from the very beginning when she wasent even a little baby yet. I love to smoke a splif from time to time and listen to pshycadelic music like The Doors but i also go to raves and party all night long. I do martial arts (Wing Chun) to keep myself and my loves once safe. And work out in the Gym to make sure my beer belly doesnt become to big. Thats about it.

my name is John. I am from Montreal, Canada. I'm 54, (but going on 18).

I started playing board wargames when in was a teenager in the 70s (no computers then). I stopped for a long time, building a career and family.

After I got my first computer in 99, I rediscovered my love of sims, mostly flight sims at first, but lately land combat sims like CMBB and CMSF. However, my first love has always been naval and subsims from SH1 and Jane's 688i/HK to today.

when I am not working, doing chores for my wife, son, two dogs (my real masters) or playing sims, I indulge my other hobbies, reading military histories, snowboarding, scuba diving or my newest hobby...

Hi Rob. GO OILERS!!

Don't know if you are a hockey fan, but I'm a lifelong Oil fan...despite being born, bred and raised outside of Philadelphia.
Hellsya! But we haven't had too much to cheer about lately :rotfl2:

What's cool is that when I was a kid there was only a handful of NHL teams, none in Edmonton, and I liked Philly back then, or "The Broad Street Bullies" as they were known. Dave Schulz!

Man, you really do look a lot like IIWO from Das Boot. That sig isn't lying :haha:
Thanks for the compliment!

Martin Stemelrogge (sp?) is hilarious! A member from this forum (sadly forget who, but thank you!!!) gave me a lot of insight about this german comedian/actor.

Lurking as always

I'm here, just beneath the surface....Played I,II,III,IV,V and a few other ones...played just about every mod that's been made available at one time or another..

Schultzy 03-03-10 09:33 PM

I'm Stephen.
I'm British, I've been here at subsim for 9 years, despite the low post count and I'm currently hurtling headlong into my midlife crisis, being a nice even 30 years of age.
I've lived in various places, but the country I enjoyed the most and spent nearly three years in, was Austria.
I've got an MA in English, my BA was in German and at the moment I'm considering whether or not I can really afford to go ahead with a Doctorate.

Spare time (what little there is of that) is spent reading, writing, visiting subsim and moaning to all who'll listen about the ills of OSP and the lack of good, tome-like manuals. :arrgh!:

BlueTosh 03-03-10 09:43 PM

Been playing SH4 & SH4: u-boat since mid-2007.

Got SH5 today via Amazon (they shipped it on Monday), have just installed it and watched as it downloaded the patch. Typing this up on my Mac, I'm traipsing back-n-forth between the two computers (and my dinner) to see what's what.

In real life I sit around writing screenplays. Sorry, no submarine flicks of late as Hollywood could care less :wah: .

Capt. Friedhoffer 03-03-10 10:28 PM

My name is Chris and I am from Chicago, Illinois. I'm 33 years old. I got into the Silent Hunter series of simulations due in large part to wartime documentaries. I became fascinated with Naval warfare via submersible, it is interesting to me. I like flight simulators as well. I started with Silent Hunter 3 a few years back and then I shelved it for awhile. Fast forward and I've rediscovered it again and it is every bit as fun as I remembered. Sorry, I couldn't run Silent Hunter 4 because of pixel shader 2.0 and instead of upgrading my PC, I grabbed an X-Box 360 instead. However, this occurred when the game was first released back in 2007 I believe. I have since played the game but I still tend to like Silent Hunter 3 a bit better. My copy of Silent Hunter 5 is on its way and I'm sure it will provide more years of fun. I'm sure of that.

I'd hate to see this thread die. It seems like a lot of the crew missed muster.

Croster 03-04-10 11:35 AM

Hey All

Won't get mine until Monday. Play SHIII with GWX mostly. Hopefully UBI will fix some of the stuff you all are seeing. Hopefully see you all online someday.

I'll start to say that my real name is Lars, I live in Odense, Denmark, but it's not my native city, so I hang around in other places too... http://www.silenthuntermods.com/foru...d/cowbcool.gif
I think to have a computer game as the only mayor interest is unhealthy, for body, mind and life in general. That's why, I'm not totally focused on this subject alone. And it's a nerd thing, so... besides SH, my great interest is photography, where I have no real favorite subject to shoot photos of. However, I never say never to shoot some photos of pretty girls... http://www.silenthuntermods.com/foru...ded/winky1.gif

However, I have been following the SH series since the beginning thus having played SH1 and owning SH2, SH3 (2 times), SH4 and SH4 Uboat add on. My purchase of SH5 is in waiting mode. I was looking forward to the game, I really was, but some rather unpleasant facts have made me able to wait for further development, whatever that may be... :-?

Anyway, this is me, in two photos. I'm sure you recognize one of the photos. In the second, it's me, Chad and maerean_m (one of the SH5 devs) in the conning tower of UC3 Nautilus at the subsim meet 2009 in Copenhagen.

Hallo, Iīm Adrian, 34 years old from Duderstadt, Germany.
I started playing submarine simultions with "Silent Service 1" on an Amstrad CPC 464, later "Silent Service 2" and "Das Boot (by threesixty) on Amiga and Aces of the deep on PC. Played all SH parts except SH IV, as I was not interested in the pacific theatre any more. By the way, I didnīt like these scripted campaigns in SH II, where I lost interest in this game in the very first mission... but didnīt care as it was a low budget edition...

One of my hobbies besides gaming is scale model building. I used to build plastic models like this (Tirpitz 1/400, Heller):

http://i89.servimg.com/u/f89/13/89/56/79/tp110.jpg

or my Type VII C/41 in 1/72:
http://i89.servimg.com/u/f89/13/89/56/79/ubo210.jpg

but now turned to papercard models like this (to a huge part self built) Minehunter Type 40 (1/250):

Besides this another hobby is drumming in a heavy metal band *g*

Much more important of course are my wife and daughter....

Right now Iīm updating my Vista and video drivers to install SH V tomorrow...

Heretic 03-04-10 07:22 PM

My name is Mike. I'm a Wyoming native marooned in Nebraska. 44 years old. I did the Marine Corps 84-88 then did odd jobs til I finally wised up and realized I could get paid for programming. Been doing that for 16 years or so, in credit card processing. Ubi's bugs are nothing compared to what I can do to you! ;) I've been computer gaming since Gary Grigsby's Carrier Force on the Atari 800. Old school hex and counters wargaming before that. My gaming claim to fame is some of the first interface mods for Take Command: Bull Run which led to my doing the Battle of Chantilly map for TC2: 2nd Manasas.
I live with my wife and daughter, their 10 rats, two dogs, two birds, and various strays. So I mainly hide out in my Dork Boy room.
