Why just dedicate a German sub forum to SH5? Why not making it for all Subsim topics, including flight sims, tank sims etc?

Nisgeis 02-26-10 12:53 PM

I'm not voting, but if I were to:

Yes to giving the Ubisoft Refugees a place they can talk about the facts of SH5 ownership. No to having a p***ing contest about who built the best boats 70 years ago.
:yeah:

Well, if we open a German Subsim forum for people who only speak German... or want to speak German with people who only speak German; then the German/English speakers can still discuss with us English only speakers in the main forums, right?

You guys who speak German/English, would you still be part of our conversations in the English only forums? I like having Germans in a U-boat forum to talk with, we wouldn't want to lose you.

Ja, FWIW that would be my main concern as well.

tommyk 02-26-10 01:48 PM

Nein, lets stay together

ENtek-IO 02-26-10 02:00 PM

I voted with no.
I am around this board since its first versions, i think that was even before 2000 ,although it never was necessary from my perspective to even have a account before 2005.

In those early times there were no relevant German activity's site wise.
Subsim was and even today is THE site for this topic, period.

The international standard for the internet is English, not German and especially not Chinese, Sorry but wtf Chinese???!

They probably need a forum to "collect" ideas for subs eh? anyways nm.

In my experience Germans are mostly ignorant in regard to English speaking sites ,even if they have some understanding of the language.

Imagine the beelike Chinese would behave like that, they would have no chance to spy adequately on us, what a shame , but they don't, they learn the languages of the country's they try to infiltrate.

I embraced the Internet for its boundlessness, and what it has become today has only remotely to do with the original spirit, today we got nations in the net, again with isolated groups Separated by language barriers.. Something i don't support.

Giving them a little nest will not help at all, that is just from my general internet experience and being an admin for an american server cluster for several years .

After 98 the masses that flooded the internet, had quite a simillar effect a dephtcharge has for a u-boat, it draged the whole intellectual level down.

Which amounts to,.. me , giving them the tip, to learn English and adapt.

That is for all the best solution.

IMHO:sunny::woot:

I voted yes, great idea.

And that's the reason why I voted "No".

Nisgeis 02-26-10 02:18 PM

So, the Germans are voting no and the non-Germans yes? Interesting .

HundertzehnGustav 02-26-10 02:24 PM

i believe in one subsim saloon, a melting pot of all cultures. People from all over the worlt post here, as well as a relatively strong nin english speaking german gropup.
But still... one forum, one crowd, one gang, one bunch of grey wolves

Hehe.

@ Neal : Perhaps posting this poll at Ubi would be better, cause most of all Subsim forum members who are german actually speak english fluently !
Asking true german speakers what they think about the creation of such a section of the forum that would be dedicated to them could be fine. :arrgh!:

My 2 cents. :|\\

subvers4 02-26-10 03:06 PM

I voted yes, for two reasons mainly. This is a u-boat sim, most of us on here are always trying for as much immersion as possible, IMHO a bit of exposure to the native language of the u-boat crews would add to the overall experience. After all, how many times have we read derogatory comments about the unnatural accents/language being used in the sim ?
Also, while it's very true that most of the German native speakers on here speak very good English, ( better than many native English speakers I know, including my apprentice ! ), not all do.
My second reason for voting yes is purely selfish, I spent a few years in my younger days living and working in Germany, and picked up the language as best I could. I would love the chance to try and better my German, if my German colleagues on here could put up with me inflicting my poor German upon them for a while, till I learned how not to abuse their mother tongue ! ;)

Hitman 02-26-10 03:17 PM

I voted yes for the fact that there are also spanish, polish, japanese, etc forums here, and as such, find it of justice.

BUT in my opinion the good thing about subsim-com is to serve as meeting point for people of different nations through the english language, and as such, we run the risk of splitting the community. The WPL is a good proof of what happens: When people start making their friends and getting used to speak in their language, they end up leaving to rise their community elsewhere. Not that I'm against it, obviously -quite the opposite- but I don't think that's the reason-of-being for subsim.com

But of course, what else would you have expected? Germans are practical, reasoning guys, while you britians and anglosaxons have a romantic vein -probably the result of your half-french heritage- that causes an inclination to such things :haha:

P.D. I count as german because of my family and education ;)

voted yes, just for giving people the possibilty to gather here at SubSim even if they like to read and write only in their native language.
but I'm afraid I would rarely visit this german subforum because I like the internationality in the main forums. and to be forced to deal with world's language nr1 really helps to improve one's vocabulary ....

Rockin Robbins 02-26-10 03:51 PM

Voted yes because of the invaluable contributions to Subsim by German speaking members. If anyone has earned their own forum they have!

Just require them to continue to practice their English here!:haha:
