@ Robj205

Before you even leave the sub pen at Kiel you can ask you navigator to 'auto' plot your course. The same way as setting a search pattern. It's called Kiel Outbound.

I can hardly wait. I'm actually in a hurry to get through the canal, but I'll take it easy through there as I'm not sure whether my plotting through there is good enough so I don't hit the shoreline. I noticed another pen along the way. On my way to AN21, Next to Lerwick.

Oops, got the wrong post above. Question: Do I have to wait until I'm out of the chanal before I can use SH3Gen to generate a report?

You can use SH3Gen if you are around 50Km away from harbours. I would wait until I clear the canal and go out in the open sea before used SH3Gen

Thanks danlisa. Next time I'll remember that. Now I have to go and rest.

Good hunting to you all!

Damn! What an uwful patrol! Just one ship sunk (that passanger/cargo) and now I HAVE TO GO BACK!

I'm in a middle of a storm, the waves seem somewhat higher than in GW1.1. The boat is behaving differently (I've read the mind-blowing manual by the way. To say it all, I've printed it and had a hell of a good lecture at bed. Thanks again, gentlemen. ). It's really sweet how problematic a surface navigation is now during a storm. :)

Now the reason I'm going home with a mere single ship downed. The last time I was attacked by the RAF, I sustained damage. There is no hull percentage which is a nice touch (by the way, is it removed from game calculations or is it just not displayed?) but single compartments have been reported to be damaged. The crew repaired them, so I was cool, until I had to stop playing.

I reloaded the game the next evening and I found sonar completely useless. It wasn't working. Not for the guy sitting at it, not for me. It gave the sound, but it was not moving. Even the volume was blocked. Then I saw that all internal indicators all over the place were damaged. I've run a fast check of all the systems and everything was "functional".

I can't continue my patrol being deaf and with the storm in the surface. I tried to explain it to my character that it's a just a bad luck. The equipment fails sometimes.

Is it normal?

Hi Jim

After a couple hours rest, I could not resist starting GMX again to try to get through the canal. But don't tell my doctor, okay? I tried for a hald hour but I kept hitting the shore and crashing. Well, I'll have to give it another try tomorrow in getting through the canal.

Hey Rob,

I just manually plot my course through it, takes a bit more time but I wont be hitting land or the docks that are in there.

and when are you goint to stop calling GWX - GMX:rotfl:
it sound funny.

Well, lets just hope you have more fun with GWX then the older TGW1.1a.

Hi Rob
Sorry to hear that :yep:
Was that using the @auto plot/pilot' ? :hmm:
As I stated earlier I,ve never actually used it myself, but will def give it a go now :yep:
If all else fails then I suppose the only answer is to do it 'manually'....even if it does take a little while longer. :yep:

Hi shipmates,

The GWX is amazing!

The original sh3 is not bad at all but some parts of it was slightly disappointing. This expansion is a huge improvement, congratulations for everyone who took part of its development.

The only thing that still bothers me is the aiming system of the deck gun (I frequently use it against lonely unarmed merchants, why waste those precious torpedoes for such easy targets). The expansion did make some improvement concerning the gun, it is far more realistic (and difficult) to shoot from a tilting and rocking uboat but the crosshair is still stationary while the barrel swings like mad. It gives the impression that the aiming optics are stabilised but the gun itself is not. In the first silent hunter game, the crosshair moved in accord with the barrel, why is it different now?

In stock SH3 there was no movement due to weather conditions/sea state therefore the deck gun was 'lazer sighted'.(what you see is what you hit) and you would not notice if the two weren't moving together.

Simply put, the cross hairs and gun were never sync'd, it's just that now you notice it.

robj250 12-21-06 07:00 AM

Sorry Hunter, I'll make sure I call it GWX from now on :D It's just that I let my fingers do the walking and sometimes they don't walk in the right spots. Maybe I had better give them a sobriety test. :rotfl:
Oh, with respect to the canal, I did try to plot my way through it myself, it's just that some of my routes were TOO close to land edges :damn:

Subwolf 12-21-06 07:25 AM

The realistic GWX...autopilot... :rotfl: :rotfl:

The azimuthal angles are sinchronised (of course). The angle in yz plane (y is parallel to the barrel and z is "vertical") between the optical axis of the aim optics and the axis of the barrel must be held constant if you ever wish to aim precisely. If it is not, you can only guess what vertical angle your rounds will go. In SH1 you could set the elevation of the gun according to the target distance and shoot when the horizontal line of the crosshair aligns with the horizon. In sh3 gwx you set the distance then watch the barrel's movement and when the barrel seems to be at halfway, shoot.

That Kiel plotting mod is from NYGM v.2.0 and originaly call "NYGM Kiel Canal navigation mod" but I can't find in GWX manual that explanation (maybe I'm blind).I'm not trying to critize but I think that should be in manual by original idea of NYGM team, or something like that. Some people didn't know for that maybe and probably think that excellent discovery of this is by GW team. Tell me if I'm wrong, maybe I can't find that in manual.

Yeah, what of this auto pilot? Is there such a beast we can use. I stay away from Kiel because of having to pilot the canal myself.:hmm:

Yes mate just after you fire up your engines and leave your berth just click on the navagation button then patrol coruses tab and you will see kiel in and kiel out tabs just click on the kiel out one and it will auto plot your course through the cannal.
On your way back you will see on the map a point call kiel inbound when you get there just click the kiel inbound tab and it will auto plot your course back through the canal.
