Fighting an enemy who isn't as smart as you are will undoubtedly do two things: One, they will fail to see flaws that you can exploit. And Two, the mistakes you make won't cost you the war since they probably won't take advantage of the oppurtunity.

I agree with the exception of the absolutes: "undoubtedly", "will fail" and "won't cost".

Those frogs bled day after day in the muddy, soggy trenches along with the British (and Americans at the end). They deserve to get some credit for what they went through during that war. You can't say they don't put up a good fight.

I've read in two books that the French army was on the verge of going home(seriously) until the Americans joined in.

Well they HAD been fighting for four years straight with no relief... And what home were they gonna go back to? If they had quit, France would have quickly become another territory for Germany to swallow up.

Anyway, the italian profile is a mix of militar and political things.
The Duce and the King were unlooky masters of opportunism; the army had little or none part in their choices, just the unpleasant duty related to decisions of leaders.

Wanted to be German actually, but alas got Poland. :P
