Don't know how I missed this one. So sorry to hear about your troubles Beery. I'm keeping my fingers crossed for you and your good lady, best of luck mate. I hope that interview works out for the best

Also, Elisabeth has what look to be two good leads on jobs (she was already interviewing before the lay-off and had hired a job placement service, so we were ahead of the game in that sense). I reckon we probably have a 70% chance of getting back to normal within the next 6 to 8 weeks, and about a 50% chance of getting a better job out of it by the start of next month. Meanwhile, Elisabeth is still pursuing every lead, and she's using any extra free time she has to spend with me and the kid. Not that there is that much spare time, as Elisabeth seems to be working as many hours finding a job as she did when she was working 9 to 5, hehe. Today she had a four hour interview (which went very well indeed) followed by two hours at her old job (she's on-call until her official termination date), then she spent another two hours looking for work on the web and writing thank-you letters to her interviewers. The last two weeks have been pretty much like that all the time.

Anyway, I'm keeping my fingers crossed that this interview today works out. They seemed to really like her, and if she gets the job it will mean we would actually make out on the deal, as it would mean a pay raise and she'd keep her severance, plus it would mean we wouldn't have to move to another town. So if that works out it will be a big relief.

I'll keep you folks posted.

That sounds GREAT Beery, Really!!! I'm glad to see that you have such a smart woman by your side. That part about her sending 'Thank You' letters to all the interviewer regardless if they employee her or not is a VERY smart thing to do. Perhaps they didn't give her a job today but in the future they will remember her and possible give her a job tomorrow. Great strategic move on her part. This way if one job hires her but it's not what she really wants and one of the previous companies that didn't hire her at first was really what she wanted then perhaps she might get a call from them down the road. Way to go Mrs. Beery  Well I would keep my head held high if I were you Beery and know that lots of folks go through tough times, but know that it only makes you a tougher and better person for it! My wife and I struggled for a few months right after I discharged from the service in the fall of 2005. I was stationed in Italy working with NATO but wanted to avoid having to go to Iraq to drive trucks for the Army. (I'm a Sailor afterall, and I don't know too much about ground combat), so I decided to just get out since my EAOS date was nearing and I had my Montgomery GI Bill money to use to go to school on.

The Navy didn't give me any house hunting leave or job hunting leave either and I had to sell back ALL '60' days I had on the books with them. Got back a pretty good chunk of change but after about 2 months. So for a few weeks we stayed with some friends and eventually I found a job in another state and we moved on a spur of the moment thing. Things were tight money wise at first but now she and I are now getting settled - sort of. I've got a baby coming now and she is due in April. Doctor says she looks healthy and everything and she should be on time or perhaps a few weeks early. I can't wait!!! Anyways, just hang in there buddy and keep your head held high, you're gonna make it through this!

:( sorry you got problems at the moment , but things do work out , given time , i had a serious neck injury like you ,on heavy plant machinary, three years ago, got laid up for three months, and ,after surgery that required removing three of my disc's and replacing them with bone graft from my hip,i was laid up for another three months,no money comeing in, i could'nt drive or nothing ,doctor's orders, so i let nature take its course, ;) i just played SH2 and walked miles, when i look back at it now i can see i got my priorities right, family and health comes first, the money will follow :smug:i got out of the steel industry and i now have a better job, although my wife says "im still a pain in the neck" i told her "everything i got , she can have" :yep: so good luck and get some SH3 patrols under your belt, its good medicine.

I'm very sorry to hear about your misfortune. I remember our exchanges quite fondly. I'll see what I can do. Best wishes to your wife.

Hi folks,

Elisabeth got a job offer yesterday, with more money and a big bonus package, so it looks like we're going to be better-off for this whole experience after all.

Whoopee!

Thanks for everyone's support through this. The responses in this thread helped us out immensely, and Elisabeth was very touched by the number of well-wishers and the level of help that people in the Subsim community offered. This is, without a doubt, the finest forum community I've ever been a part of, and I'm looking forward to the next sub game that takes my fancy so that I can again contribute to this community in a substantial way.
