We can only hope they represent that tiny percentage of subsimmers who are rabidly demented Harvey Keitel fans. Maybe they saw him and thought they were watching Pulp Fiction. :p In which case they weren't too far off.

Das Boot, no competition.

I never saw U-571, but I thought about voting for it, because it looked lonely.
From the descriptions here it sounds kind of like a comment I heard once about "Pearl Harbor" - a great 20 minute war movie surrounded by 2 1/2 hours of crap.

Picking favorites is always difficult, Das Boot Director's cut to be sure but with only three choices... Can't argue with Run Silent, Rub Deep either. IMO U-571 should not be mentioned in the same list as these masterpieces without adding a warning prefix like "And now for a submarine film that Really Sucks..." or "This is a message move and the message is Avoid At All Costs".

An earlier poster mentioned Operation Petticoat starring Cary Grant and Tony Curtis. A good WW2 submarine flick and classic romantic comedy combined. Don't gag, the plot actually works surprisingly well. It shows up every now and then on TCM or AMC and is worth a look.

Good Hunting

In the World Championship of total Crap movies U-571 has a good lead.

Only fun thing is when Jon Bon Jovi gets his head shot off:lol:

Operation Petticoat still holds as a good movie with a "Cute" plot and an unusual way of launching decoys!! <No spoiler from my standpoint>

Finally, Das Boot..........it´s just Wlofgang Petersens masterpiece and to add to that I will say K-19 "The Widowmaker" directed by Catherine Bigelow who used the techniques of Pedersen in how shooting the movie. The moving camera concept is used here as well combined with extreme detail concerning the vessel.

DAS BOOT!!!

It IMHO is like Submarine Sims. A niche market.

I'm happy that they make them at ALL.:D

Is the poll thingy broken? I see 6 votes for U-571, but only 2 names? Or can guests vote too?

Comparing between U-571 and Pearl Harbor, I rather to watch U-571 cuz it's a shorter and comical film.

Das Boot is my top favorite, and I have uncut DVD verison of it. I watched The Enemy Below couple weeks ago, I thought it was great and classic. I have yet seen Run Silent, Run Deep, but it is in my Netflix Quene, and plan on watching it soon.
